Bassitt had a horrendous first start of the season, but since then he has a 3.48 ERA (4.20 FIP) in 129 innings. You could argue that they overpaid for what he is, but he's mostly been fine this season.

 

Kyle Gibson 2.4 WAR this season

 

Chris Bassitt 1.4 WAR this season

 

Jays still owe Bassitt over $40M for the next two seasons; Gibson is a FA

 

Bassitt has been decent this season, nothing spectacular. At best he's an alright No. 3 but he's mostly a No. 4 starter. I do think the Jays did overpay given his age but at least he's been decent. More worried about Year 2 and 3 with him. Would rather have that $40M freed up but oh well.
