connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 Bro it's JP Morosi. His tweets mean nothing. Atkins kicks the tired on literal every free agent and trade possibility. I’m sure most GMs do, without being attention whores
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 True that. Chapman can stay gone though. I agree. Not feeling any of the long-term 3B options at all so unless there is something in trade I would just cheap out and get some slap hitter 1 year stop gap. Maybe hope a prospect can take the position. Spend a bit for quality 1 year veterans at LF or DH. Maybe even a multi-year quality veteran at LF...
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 Candelario would be super underwhelming and probably gets three years. Please no A 2 year deal wouldn't be the worst thing.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2023 Author Posted November 20, 2023 So Jays are in on everyone? Sounds familiar.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 another meaningless tweet

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 I'd be down with JD won't mess you up defensively, should be fairly cheap

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 another meaningless tweet Yep. This time of the year is the worst. Even worse than Spring training. Endless meaningless rumors, empty quotes and speculation.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 The Jays should just go hard in the paint on Yamamoto and go in-house with some of these positions and pick up platoon bats. The bats available are slim and frankly not worth it. Do we know who's available via trade at 3rd base?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 Let the JRam rumours begin:p I want him so bad but sounds like he just really wants to stay in Cleveland: https://www.si.com/mlb/bluejays/news/blue-jays-jose-ramirez-trade-guardians-extension In the final days of 2022 spring training, approaching an imposed deadline for extension talks while Toronto and San Diego ramped up trade efforts, Ramírez pushed to stay with the Guardians. Ramírez's agent, Rafa Nieves of Republik Sports, told Gonzalez he and others tried to talk the Cleveland infielder out of taking the well below market value deal he eventually signed. "He knows that he left money on the table," Gonzalez reports Nieves said. "But he says, '$150 million or $200 million, my life is gonna be the same. I'm happier with $150 million in Cleveland than $200 million somewhere else.'" Toronto's interest in Ramírez was long-reported, dating back to at least midseason 2021. Touching on the days leading up to Ramírez's eventual extension, Sportsnet's Jeff Blair adds that industry sources told him "three of Randal Grichuk, Cavan Biggio, Alejandro Kirk and Pearson would have been the package" sent to Cleveland for Ramírez. ------------------ Interesting article with more details than I knew were out there. He has full no trade clause according to Sportrac.

I bet he will try and play his entire career there.

Yeah this is not the market to go with multi year deals on non-Ohtani position player free agents, so if the Jays intend on making a "big splash", then Yamamoto (if Ohtani signs elsewhere) is the way to go. Then fill in the cracks with internal options or one year deals.
