this is the most bizarre season

who could have imagined Toronto, with these players, would be sitting in a playoff spot but utterly unwatchable in mid August and frankly for like half of the season so far

"iT's oNe oF tHe bEsT lInEuPs iN ThE lEaGuE":eek::eek:

But it is

They have a top 5 wOBA on the season and project to be a top 2 or 3 offense rest of season

The difference between their talent and performance over the last 2 weeks or so is....... catastrophically large

You are precisely as good as your performance. Nothing more, nothing less.

This is the type of game where last year Marcus Semien would hit a three run hr to take the lead in the 8th. Alas...

6th most runs in baseball

2nd most in the AL

This team looks like ass right now

The team lacks leadership. We desperately need a Russell Martin or Josh Donaldson type of guy on this team. Someone to get the guys fired up.

This team just exudes lethargy. No bark, no bite.

Man, I wonder if the travel is just adding up. I don't know what it's like for MLB'ers, but getting into Canada from America has been a bloody nightmare all year long. The airports in Canada are in shambles. I'd assumed ball players wouldn't have deal with it like the plebes, but who the hell knows.

I think private charters avoid all that stuff.

I read somewhere that they fly into Buffalo and then take a bus to T.O.

I am at a loss

It's not even like the bats are mostly young guys who are choking under pressure. Yeah Kirk, Vlad, Bo are all young but basically everyone else is a veteran or late 20s guy

Interesting. Yes, that would definitely be the sensible thing to do come to think of it.

The only consistent thing for this team, this entire season, has been bad decision making.

Whether its approach at plate during key situations or baserunning or defensive cues, its just bad decisions. When we are in a slump, they get magnified and some (just like during the 9 game west coast stretch before ASB).

I haven't paid as much attention to it last year and not sure if was the same situation, just glossed over the fact that four players were having career years.

What's crazy is that these guys exuded energy on the field last year and that was with playing all the home games on the road. The vibe from last year is all but gone. I'd wager that there's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that the media hasn't covered. The chemistry is definitely off.

Just before the asb we were hitting on all cylinders. Maybe the lack of meaningful adds at the trade deadline was a downer for the team? It's a mystery.

Of course they did. Look at their stats specifically in the minor league parks and you'll understand why.

I doubt it.

The players probably saw Whit Merrifield as a big add lol

LOL. It didn't stop members of this board rating the deadline deals as an A grade. Their names are still up for posterity.:P

I don't have any problems with the deadline tactics either

Prices were insane and Toronto doesn't have a super deep farm so it is what it is

I agree, but to rate it an A is delusion.

Like that, why hasn't that been addressed/fixed for Chapman? That is just awful decision making watching strike 3 go down the pipe.

I understand he Ks a lot but the f*** is watching strike 3 go by? Any of the three hitting coaches wanna step in and go "Hey bud, you gotta protect" or like get a mosquito league coach to step in and reiterate "you gotta go down swinging".

You can't really "fix" a guy who is just kind of bad at swing decisions
