Small vertical was from not expecting a bad throw over the runner and that late. When he saw it finally appear, very little time to react

If he had moved into foul territory to receive the throw (since that's where Jansen had to make the throw from) then maybe Jansen wouldn't have had to throw over the runner. Those are nuances that Vladdy is still learning at 1B.

This is completely unfair because it all averages out and they are good players.,, but if it’s it a big at bat and I need a competitive at bat… i dread Teo and Bo coming up.

Then he should have given Jansen a clear lane to throw the ball. Caleb broke that down in the post game how Vladdy stood in fair ground when Jansen was throwing from foul territory. That's why Jansen had to flip it over the runner because Vladdy has pathetic baseball instincts.

He had 1...Jansen needed 1 step to his right and good angle. Jansen has to make the throw

What lolol If Vladdy had the time to react and jump there is no reason he couldnt taken the little bit of extra effort and jumped like a couple inches more to securely get his glove on it.

Watch the replay man... you'll see how bad of a job vladdy did to make Jansens life easier.

Of course Jansen could have been better but he was worried about Gordon running to 3rd on the play too... Vladdy did nothing on his end except being extremely casual and making the wrong fundamental decision.

Go try it with a runner running at you lol. Vlad was going to go full 100% vertical, catch the ball, land, find the base, tag it... and get out of the runners way in that short time lmao

Jansen had to take 1 step to the freaking right and through across back to Vlad. Instead he went over the runner and high. s*** happens. Make a good throw

Me too. At least Teo has been good lately. Did anyone think he wouldn't chase a slider off the plate with two strikes? It's in those moments I just wish we had a shot at a big LH bat at the plate.

Vlad under no circumstances is crossing the base. None, 0, period. Jansen has to make a throw from another step to the right, or block it better, or get to it quicker

I promise you'll take this back once you see the full replay of where you can see Vladdy and Jansen at the same time lol.

They set him up perfectly

Vlad will never go to the opposite side of the bag. He has been told to avoid the baseline at all costs. Never crossing it. Get it in your head

I have haha Ive been part of that exact same play with a dropped 3rd strike with the catcher making a bad throw over my head while the runner comes down the line, part of it is not expecting the bad throw and another part is the lack of effort. When the ball is just slighty out of arms reach over your head you sometimes dont go all out on the jump because then you might overshoot it and have it clank off your wrist.

That is if the ball is in fair territory dude. If you feel you can catch the ball in foul territory and quickly get out of the way of the runner, you do exactly that. I'll wait for my apology tomorrow lol

For what lol. I'm telling you he will never cross the baseline. Not what first basemen should do...what HE has been told to do

Looked like a bang bang play that sometimes they execute and sometimes they don't. Tonight was one of those 50/50 games that sometimes you lose. Is what it is.

Is this the disconnect, between you all not understanding Vlad has been told to avoid the runner and baseline at all costs...running in front of him cross the baseline is part of it, so that's not an option. Meaning Jansen needed to make a touch throw or step right. If that doesn't happen you saw the outcome. Just comes down to whether Vlad judged the height correctly

Ya, we staged a comeback against 2 of the best relief pitchers in the game; just couldn't wrap it up.

You win some, you lose some.

Tomorrow is an afternoon start - hopefully White delivers.

I am sorry for snapping. Haven't slept in about a week. COVID has been pretty bad

Still Jansen has to make the angle or touch throw given Vlad isn't going across the runner by default (though that's how the play is suppose to go)

Bingo. Tough loss after coming back down 5-0. It happens. Could’ve rolled over and died in the 5th inning but they didn’t.

So maybe we just never start Berrios on the road again. It sucks that the first mega deal the franchise has given a pitcher has gone this poorly in Year 1. He looked like almost a slam dunk to be a solid #3 for a majority of that contract. You don’t see the people calling him an Ace last season post much anymore lol.

Nobody called him an Ace.

Vladdy is a good defender at first base but this is on him somewhat also. He should have lined himself up on the inside in foul territory to give Jansen an angle where he doesn't have to throw over the runner. Basic fundamentals taught in little league.

No he didn't. Stop defending Vladdy no matter what, it's nauseating.

It's obvious you've never played ball before. Just stop brother.
