THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 The more ideal scenario is the Jays sign one of these (or Ray) and acquire a cost controlled SP by trade. Jays are talking to Miami according to reports. That leaves FA dollars for arm barn upgrades and Javy Baez. I would do a trade for a SP as long as we keep Moreno and to a lesser extent Martinez & Pearson. I'm fine with dangling Groshans, Kirk & Gurriel as bait, but don't want to empty the pool of our best sharks, so to speak, if we can avoid it. Question is, would Gurriel, Kirk & Groshans + get you Castillo, or would he cost some of the above names I'm hoping we don't part with.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 (edited) Yep I would 100% overpay for Mad Max and if we get burned finally by father time, so be it, but would sleep sound knowing our process was perfect! Scherzer Ryu Berrios Manoah ?Pearson/?Whoever LOVE IT Edited November 19, 2021 by G-Snarls
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Scherzer Ryu Berrios Manoah/Pearson Whoever LOVE IT Trade Kirk and Groshans for the whoever. Now we're talking.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Scherzer Ryu Berrios Manoah/Pearson Whoever LOVE IT Manoah deserves his own line

The Reds just handed the catcher job to Stephenson, not sure they want Kirk.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Manoah deserves his own line Yes he probably does. Seems likely to have a full time rotation spot next year. Pearson still has a shot or could evolve to be a late inning RP over the next 1-2 years.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Would anyone be opposed to 1 year deals with Rodon and Hill... very risky, but high reward?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Would anyone be opposed to 1 year deals with Rodon and Hill... very risky, but high reward? How high of an award do you think a 42yo is going to give? Rodon can prob do ok for himself this off-season. Not big bucks but ok

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Would anyone be opposed to 1 year deals with Rodon and Hill... very risky, but high reward? I'd 100% be OK with 1 year deals for either guy. Especially Rodon. He's a 5 WAR SP when healthy and still just 28 years old.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 So opposed to it? I don’t think (any way in hell) Rodon signs a 1 year deal- so I can’t say I’m opposed to something that won’t happen.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 As for Hill, not a bad backend SP but wouldn’t classify him as high-reward. Wouldn’t mind the signing as depth

Wouldn’t mind the signing as depth Hill would be the 5th starter, man. lol... 2 Wins out of him or more in the back of the rotation is a good get. Jay's should be signing guys like him as depth after whom they get as the top option.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Really? I’m surprised 18 on the list, fellas on MLBN think the same because of history... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/top-50-mlb-free-agent-rankings.html

I googled a couple and saw first two predictions at 5/75 and 5/95. At 5/75, you’d almost think to sign a 1yr deal with the talent. So maybe
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 With Ryu needing to be babied and Manoah workload needing to be managed (I think), Rodon or Hill might not be wise. Wacha the more reliable, can eat innings, and his numbers are not bad actually.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Doesn't matter who we get for the back end of the rotation you know old Pete is going to turn him to gold. That's what he does lol

That's what he does lol Pete is very good at turning careers around...........but at the same time this FO has to learn some guys are just wayyy beyond repair (Tanner Roark) not only does it give us a s*** starter every 5 days but it taxes out the bullpen. Remember our manager suffers most in managing his arms.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 Would anyone be opposed to 1 year deals with Rodon and Hill... very risky, but high reward? How was Hill after the spider tack crackdown? I assumed that was one of the reasons he was able to turn his career around in the first place. Dick Mountain is a great guy, but I'm not sure he has much left.

I was just looking at guys that would take one year, maybe Duffy or Pineda? Just spitballing...
