lol so we basically got Dickerson and Cimber for an extra $1M.

What a fleece by us.

Absolutely. Cimber is a pretty big upgrade on (pick your worst current reliever). It's good to get a different look in the pen too. And guys like him who DON'T rely on wicked spin just got a league relative skill upgrade because of the new foreign substance rules (he didn't get better but a good number of his peers got worse; yes there is an assumption here, maybe Cimber used the sticky stuff and I don't know).

Dickerson is also a pretty f***ing good hitter who has made himself into a playable left fielder. Capable of hitting .300 with power. A fantastic platoon option for the struggling Gurriel. Yeah, Dickerson's game is flawed but he's not a zero. Better at baseball than Joe Panik right now.

Dickerson is basically a lefty version of Teoscar (just a few years older and maybe a little less arm). I actually think trading Teoscar could be the next play, and probably a smart one. He'd bring in a nice starter or possibly elite BP arm.

We might not be seeing much more of Rowdy when Dickerson is back which is a good thing.

That's fine by me I was sick of seeing him striking out or hitting in GIDP. I think this move will keep in AAA for the rest of the season at least this should give some better depth out of DH spot.

The Marlins must think highly of McInvale. This makes no sense from their perspective otherwise except maybe make room in the OF.

What the hell, this absolutely hilarious lmao. The only way this made sense was from a salary dump perspective and it turned out to just be $1M in difference?

Meh, that's okay. 24 year old relief prospect in AA with a nearly 6.0 BB/9 and mediocre peripherals. If he becomes something with the Marlins I'll be stoked for him because he likely would have been a career minor leaguer here.

Biggio getting dealt

Or they just see him as a really useful player but one that shouldn’t be playing 3b regularly in any scenario

I didn't notice they did this.

If Jamie did a little bit of research, he'd realize that Kevin Smith has played 3B in all levels of the minors, so him playing said position in AAA isn't exactly new information. It's a function of how the Jays view Smith in general (UT infielder).

Wouldn't expect a call up is imminent because of this, but he technically could be next on the depth chart if there is an injury to Biggio/Espinal.

Lol, why are people rearranging our roster and trading core pieces because we acquired an injured, 32-year old Corey Dickerson who is a pending free agent?

He's literally just a Panik replacement off the bench. I don't think we'll be moving on from any of our core pieces because of this deal.

Why don't people want depth?

I doubt any other major league position player on the team gets traded (except a catcher maybe)

And there's no way you are trading a player and then bringing up Kevin Smith hoping he can help you win a playoff spot.

The absolute madman. Atkins did it. He finally took away Charlie's favourite toy.

A++ move

"Joe, you've been traded to the Marlins. This is Kim Ng's number. She's a good person, she's the GM. She's expecting your call. Buddy will help you with the plane flight. You're a good ballplayer, Joe, and we wish you the best."

My awkward excitement at work checking bjmb and seeing that Panik is gone...

You think Atkins got Ng to supply our pop machine for the rest of the season? For Panik? Naaaaaahhh!

Basically we get an upgrade reliever (not a great one, but an upgrade over the Carl Edwards Jr.s that we've been tossing out), remove Panik, move Biggio back to full time 3B, and have Dickerson as a bench piece (probably playing the OF whenever Biggio would have in the past...)

We're replacing Panik's 76 wRC+ with Dickerson's 101 wRC+, and adding some needed bullpen help. Hopefully the minor leaguer isn't anyone of consequence, but I can't imagine that it would be considering the return.

It's not... Andrew McInvale.

I was thinking this too

Rowdy gets the year to work in the minors

So there's an Indians fan on r/baseball that commented on this trade saying that Cimber was his favorite player in the MLB. I thought he was joking (as did everyone else) but he later elaborated down in the comments and it's actually kind of adorable.

This is such a confusing trade.

Hopefully Cimber gets more exposure in Toronto. He's having a career year and is my favorite player in the bigs.

Of all the players in the MLB, Adam Cimber is your favourite?

edit: just saw your comment further down in the post, imma cry

Cimber is a super chill and nice submariner who has two bernadoodles and loves classic rock. Super fun to watch him pitch and he's having a career year. Quietly one of the nicest people on a roster.

I can't tell if you're making all this up or if you're actually the world's biggest Cimber fan

Message I sent him when he got demoted to AAA in 2019.

And no, I'm not a creepy superfan or anything. I haven't tried to message him since, he doesn't need that. He just made a big impact on my life as a player and I wanted to reach out and hopefully help when he was down in the dumps.
