Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 This is a good stretch to make up some ground with Miami and Baltimore. We need to take at least four out of the next 5
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 What a win. What a sports day in general. Penny Oleksiak posts her best 100M Free time since her gold medal in Rio. Blue Jays win a close game without causing any stress. Raptors get 4th in the draft and are essentially guaranteed one of Suggs or Green. Franco smashes a 3-run bomb against the Red Sox for his first career hit. All the things I was looking forward to delivered. Great day. Fully expect Masai to take a surprise pick and nobody would question it. Mobley or Suggs seems like best fit. Bouknight is interesting. Kuminga feels like a Masai pick. It’s been a long time since they’ve drafted this high, and I’ve been a diehard Raptors fan since the Carter era.

I'm hoping that doesn't happen. I want one of the bonafide guys. I'd still trust Masai if he went off-meta here but it would just be a lot more unfun throughout the player development stage constantly wondering if they messed up by not taking one of the big guys. It's like Celtics fans being terrified of the Tatum/Fultz thing when it happened. Of course Tatum was the right pick all along but I'm just hoping this time around the reality is that the assumed BPA is the actual BPA and they just take him.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Suggs sounds like a bonafide Lowry replacement. Jason Kidd comps.. though every other draft they’re throwing those Jason Kidd comps to any remotely taller PG. I still think we need an alpha ahead of Siakam and Freddy in the pecking order. Kawhi was the 15th pick so you never know. Doncic was clearly a stud at draft time and still somehow slipped.

I would be pretty surprised honestly if Masai goes off the board in the top 4. His off-meta picks have been in the 20 -30 range. He took BPA with OG and Poetl IIRC

NBA.com comps him as a young Ray Allen, Zach Lavine, Kelly Oubre and Ben McLemore. NBAdraftroom says built like Ray Allen, game like Clyde, fierce like Kobe! It definitely should be BPA at 4 and that will be Green, Mobley or Suggs. I love all 3 personally.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Jalen Green is smexy not gonna lie. Just don’t wanna get my hopes up, those guys don’t fall very far. I would be pretty surprised honestly if Masai goes off the board in the top 4. His off-meta picks have been in the 20 -30 range. He took BPA with OG and Poetl IIRC Masai is always BPA. The thing is, his draft board doesn’t always follow industry consensus. A lot of fans wanted Sabonis in 2016 over Poeltl, they both turned out decent. You can’t do much better than OG at 23rd. Siakam was robbery in broad daylight and nobody knew at the time. I trust Masai more than industry tbh.

His off-meta picks have been in the 20 -30 range. He took BPA with OG and Poetl IIRC He's definitely always been BPA but it just comes down to who he thinks the BPA is. Like nobody else had Pascal Siakam as the best player available where Masai did. Another example is how he rated Shai Gilgeous-Alexander a lot higher than other front offices did and desperately tried to trade up to get him. Tried the same with Giannis once upon a time too. So it just comes down to whether Masai sees Suggs, Green and Mobley as the best available options at #4 or if he sees something in a guy like Kuminga that others don't. I'm hoping it's the former and the Raptors just end up with one of these super hyped prospects.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Exactly While the Rays and Red Sox play each other and the Yankees continue to stumble Is it stumbling or is it the Royals. They have been good then really bad and now it seems they might be good again..... I am having a hard time pin pointing what they are.

I don't know So many teams off their expectations I still can;'t believe the Red Sox and the Astros have the best record in the AL while the Twins and Yankees are not currently even in playoff spots The NL too. Giants? Braves? Not where they were expected to be. But I suppose that's the fun of it
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 Reese is looking good out there from both sides of the plate. Jansen can take his time coming back. We'll wait for Kirk!

We may actually have 3-4 legit MLB caliber catchers after all PLUS Moreno Jansen just can't seem to hold his own at the plate which is disappointing
