So I had to look up who he is. Then was wowed by his home run stats. He’s 48 now but can hopefully still swing a bat. It’ll be good to see a legend of baseball in action Down Under.

I went to my first Sydney Blue Sox game in January, and in a crowd of only 500 (we are a cricket-obsessed nation), I spotted about five or six Blue Jays jerseys so that was pretty cool. Someone mentioned there might be an affiliation between the teams but I have no idea if that is true.

For those interested in ‘six’ distances in cricket, an enormous hit would be around 330 feet. So these 450+ feet monsters in baseball are unreal.

At what age do baseball players typically retire? Will Manny be able to offer anything to the Blue Sox?

For a few years Toronto was sending a handful of prospects to play for Canberra in the ABL. That stopped, for whatever reason. I think Toronto didn't see much return on the arrangement (the prospects were not getting a lot of playing time?).

Baseball players typically retire in their 30s, like most major sports.

Manny Ramirez will probably be bad. Super old and I don't think he's played for like, 6 years. Don't go out and buy a jersey.

I mean, he'll probably be alright against the level of competition he'll face there. It would be a pretty neat jersey to buy regardless, IMO.

Thanks Laika. Yeah, I think they only play 20-odd games or something. Not much considering how long the MLB goes for. Apparently the Blue Sox catcher was a fringe MLB player before coming over.

Apparently they’re selling quite well! But I think I’ll save my pennies for a second Jays jersey. I imagine it’s easy to build up quite a collection of favourite players.
