Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 I'm looking to reboot an NBA Keeper League with the resurgence of interest in basketball after the Raptors Championship run. This will be a KEEPER league, not a DYNASTY league. What does that mean? 1) There will be no prospect roster, just an NBA roster. We will never need a Google Doc to track draft picks or prospects, and all keeper selections will be made directly through Yahoo. 2) You don't need in-depth, obsessive NBA knowledge to join! If you got basketball fever this Spring or want to pick up watching the sport again, this league is for you also. 3) There will be a smaller number of annual keepers compared to your typical deep dynasty league. I'm thinking 6 keepers each, but I will open this up for discussion. 4) NBA Rookies will be lumped into the annual Waiver draft along with all other unowned players. 5) In-season waiver priority does not carry over to the following season; Waiver Draft order will be determined by a weight draft lottery based on standings.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 Roster Positions PG, G, SG, SF, F, PF, C, UTIL, BN, BN, BN, BN, IL, IL, IL Scoring will be Head-to-Head and will use the following stats: - Points - Rebounds - Assists - Steals - Blocks - Assist-to-TO Ratio - FG% - 3PT% - FT%
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 (edited) About draft order for next year. The bottom 6 (non-playoff) teams will all be in the lottery with equal odds. Picks 7-12 will be in reverse order of final playoff standings (ie champion will pick 12th). This will not be a snake draft and pick order is in effect each round. Picks are not tradable. Edited November 2, 2019 by Dr. Dinger
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Why does Yahoo want to share my data with NBA.com?

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 Why does Yahoo want to share my data with NBA.com? So Yahoo knows which merch to target your advertising with when you pop Zion 1st overall.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 So Yahoo knows which merch to target your advertising with when you pop Zion 1st overall. Would he be a good 1st overall choice? I have no idea. Or is it still Lebron?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 Would he be a good 1st overall choice? I have no idea. Or is it still Lebron? You could make an argument for Giannis, Harden, Anthony Davis, maybe a few other dudes. Definitely not LeBron at his age.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 You could make an argument for Giannis, Harden, Anthony Davis, maybe a few other dudes. Definitely not LeBron at his age. Davis is too injury prone, definitely Giannis or Harden, and tack on Curry to that.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 I personally wouldn't consider Steph at 1-1 in a brand new keeper league, just based on his age. However, he is poised to have a monster fantasy season with Durant gone and Klay injured for most of the year. In a redraft league, there's a strong argument for him being right there with Harden as a hyper-efficient shooter poised for incredible volume.

Curry definitely has age + injuries to consider so I agree with you. However he's got as good a chance as anyone to be the top fantasy player for the next 1-2 seasons.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 I think I might be interested. Only thing I would say is that you have a very small lineup listed (only 8 starting slots). Most default leagues add another C and UTIL slot to make 10. Would suggest considering making it deeper
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 I wouldn't even take Zion in the first round in a 12 man leauge.

I'm open to the discussion though, once the league fills up. We are at 8/12 already!

I think it will be more enjoyable too with bigger benches so there's less talent on waiver wire. I think we had small rosters last time we tried this and it was one of the pitfalls.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 I'd be more inclined to expand benches than to add more starters.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 Got 11 confirmed owners now, looking for one more and then I can generate the draft order.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 The draft will be “offline”... ie it will not be a live Yahoo draft but more like our standard waiver draft. I would propose starting it around late September/early October, as it may take a couple weeks to complete.

BTS Community Moderator Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 So 12 teams x 14-man rosters. 168 total players drafted isn't too bad.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 I think I'm going to lock it here at 12 teams, so we can have 3 divisions of 4 and 6 playoff teams. 14 teams would be a weird number and 16 might be a stretch in terms of acquiring decent owners and pushing the limits of our basketball knowledge. We've got a good group here too. I'll most likely generate the draft order today.
