You must be a business virtuoso.

Why would you pay someone more than they are worth? Are you claiming that you are cheap if you don't give some scrub drafted in the 37th round the full $125K?

Players generally get paid what they are deemed to be worth, regardless of where they are drafted. A guy who only signs for $10K did so for a reason.

s***, now you explained that to me warren buffet, I understand. Thanks man.

No problem sonny.

BRB Microsoft are cheap *******s because they don't pay the janitor a 100K salary even though they have the means to do so.

Ah yea, Microsoft that enjoys special rules that allows them to massively underpay their employees generally. Microsoft where the janitor must be a janitor for Microsoft for at least 7 years and had no choice at all to which company he can go and pursue his career as a janitor.

Good analogy pops.

Are you wearing your Che Guevara shirt right now?

You clearly don't understand this process at all. The players who sign for virtually nothing are 95% of the time guys who had zero hopes of even playing pro ball in the low minors. They accept the money and opportunity to play pro baseball for a bit because prior to receiving the call they were likely contemplating what real-world job they were going to go and work. Literally no one is putting a gun to any of these players' heads and forcing them to sign for nothing. If they were worth more, some other team would gladly pay them that.

Oh, ok. Yea, they are cheap.

I don’t care if they don’t have to, either. If I know someone doesn’t tip, I think they are cheap as well.

First organization in the big leagues to announce a large (50% +) raise for all minor league players.

I understand the f***ing process. I am saying that they could give them more of the chump change (by baseball standards) they are already giving them.

I’m not saying that they should be legislated to or they should be made to do so, I’m saying that I am making a value judgement and saying that they are cheap in the same way I think people who don’t tip are cheap.

You can take it or leave it.

I believe he's talking MLB as a whole, not just Toronto. It seems like a weird hill to die on though, these guys all had free tuition in college(a fortune in itself), and it's their choice to sign on and keep that dream alive. This was agreed on in the CBA, it's not all on the owners. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Minor league players aren’t represented.

Also, an observation isn’t a hill to die on. This doesn’t affect me at all. However, like any other person, I can recognize a s***** situation and call it out.

I’m surprised that so many people are so concerned about the bottom line of baseball teams. That’s weird but I guess fans and owners interests align and people have to figure out a way to rationalize that.

Yeah that's the part I think he's forgetting. The minimal bonus guys are generally going to be college seniors who have a four year degree to fall back on. Their choice is to take a few grand in signing bonus and a small salary in order to keep chasing their dream - or join their graduating peers trying to find a job. Even then they've come out well ahead of most of those peers, not being buried in debt thanks to scholarships. Really no reason to feel sorry for these senior signs at all, they are still in much better standing than your average 22 year old college graduate.

They are giving them 5k. They are cheap as f***. Just give them 50k. MLB teams tons of money.

No. Seniors drafted in the first 10 rounds are counted towards the cap, hence why we grabbed seniors in round 7 and 8 to help pay for Kendall Williams. (@350-400K pool allocation)

125k and over rule is for round 11-40 so teams don’t cheat the draft by being too cute with predraft deals. You could pay everybody in round 11-40, 100k but no team ever does that. Guys that fall that far generally are happy to just be drafted. There are draft success stories like Albert Pujols but they’re few and far between.

This is a very, very big deal.

For a bunch of guys working, min wage and 12 hour work days, 8 months a year, this significantly improves their quality of life.

Minor leagues is a grind, guys often have to work part time jobs in the offseason just to pay rent while chasing their MLB dreams.

30-50% increase means they can eat better, sleep better, get better equipment, etc.

Yeah, it doesn't affect me either, right? It's a baseball forum, and we're discussing just that. Of course our interest aligns with how the system works currently, because it's what we have. I don't mind your opinion, was just explaining it to you. I really couldn't care less, there's a lot more harm going on in this world than ball players that couldn't make pro-ball with a paid tuition for playing a game they love.

Well. I meant more that it’s in the fans interests for the owner to save money because ideally they would spend that extra money on the team.

I see your point though.
