Blue Jays must Extend Justin Smoak.

Trading with Brian Cashman worked out about how I expected it to. Trading with the Rays will probably have a similar outcome. No thanks.

Smoak is such a great fit and upgrade for the Rays right now. Rays have a handful of prospects in their top 30 who, would be exposed to the rule 5 next year (Betts, Linares, Gomez, Whitley, Brujan, Hernandez, Taylor, Krook, Fox, Boldt, Poche & Brosseau), and a bunch more which they added recently that haven't made the 25 man yet (Lowe...who would be my target, Faria, McCarthy). I don't know who else is looking to move a not so expensive 1B, so I just think it's a great fit.

 

The Rays don't trade for veterans they promote their own young cheap prospects and usually trade them away after they a develop because they can't afford them there's a reason they are MLB lowest payroll.

 

The real need for the Rays right now is starting pitching they lost Tyler Glasnow to injury the only have 3 legit starters they have to rely heavily on their bullpen to start games. They've been doing this for 2 years now if the plan to compete this season they need at least one more reliable starter Snell, Morton and Yarborough can't possibly handle the workload for a whole season especially going down the stretch not knowing how Glasnow will rebound. The Yankees started the year with practically most of their regulars on the DL when guys like Didi, Judge and Stanton get back even though their replacement did quite well they will be stronger with their full roster.
