P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 As you may or may not have seen in another thread, we're having legitimately-interesting Blue Jays' pitching prospect, Josh Winckowski, on our podcast for an interview. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa918379&position=P If you have an idea for questions that you'd like us to ask him, post them here.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 What do you think of JP Arencibia? What's your favourite metallica song? Can tap water give cats diabetes? Can Ryan Goins stick?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 What is his biggest surprise about minor league ball? Expected questions about his arsenal? Is he a traditional training guy, or does he believe in any alternative training methods? Please don't make him say something nice about Canada. Draft day as well. did he know he would sign to go pro or was he leaning towards a scholarship?
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 What do you think is your best pitch?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Since you guys are analytically inclined, maybe float a question on if he follows Driveline baseball or its techniques, or if he has looked into/someone in the organization has brought up spin rates or some of that other buzzwordy newer evaluation methods.

Can Ryan Goins stick? I feel like if we ever meet IRL, it's going to be very difficult to control the urge to clock you in your stupid head

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Whats your impression of the Jays high performance team so far
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Long time Blue Jay farmhand John Tolisano was the first player drafted out of Josh's high school (Josh was the 3rd). Does he know him and would he use him as his realtor?
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Would be cool to know how early he knew that GBs would be an important part of his game.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Josh, give us the true non PC answer. You are a South Florida kid from a sunny, low tax (no state tax) state with beaches and beer in every convience store and gas station, concealed carry etc. When you and your buddies hear/have an inclination that they will be drafted by the Blue Jays, foreign country, reputation cold, high taxes, pain in the ass to buy beer etc what is the initial reaction? You were playing ball about as far away as you could get from Naples in Vancouver, and if you make it to the show you will not be as far, but still far and a different country. Do you even think about things like that or are you just super stoked to be in any MLB teams system? True no PC answer. Assuming the Blue Jays did not exist, which was your dream team to be drafted by? Have you ever been to a Canadian strip club and realized Canada doesnt have singles and been like, I am not making enough money to be putting $5 in the garter of every dancer, what am I supposed to do? I am sure more excellent journalistic opportunties will come to me I can share. Oh, and a Happy New Year and have a great 2019 you filthy animals!

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 How do you properly pronounce your name?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Did you know you can take a 2 hour ferry ride from Vancouver to China?
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Has he tried Dill Pickle or Ketchup chips?
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Did you know you can take a 2 hour ferry ride from Vancouver to China? f*** Off, lol.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Did you know you can take a 2 hour ferry ride from Vancouver to China? More likely a Ferry takes you for a 2 hour ride And you wish you were in China ! Lol They make everything smaller n faster ! Lol
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Whats your impression of the Jays high performance team so far Thanks Buster. I'll follow up this one by asking him if he likes playing baseball.
43211234 Verified Member Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I can't think of a good question and you probably don't need this advice but it's probably a better idea to not have all 5 regular hosts on during the interview. It might be a bit busy. Probably 3 at the most I think. idk just a suggestion.
GoldBull Verified Member Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I’m interested in the degree to which the org gets involved with some of the softer sides of development. 1. What level of support does the team provide relating to nutrition? How important is nutrition to your development? 2. What other non-physical training does the team provide/mandate?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Josh, give us the true non PC answer. You are a South Florida kid ! He's from Ohio. Moved to Florida for baseball.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 He's from Ohio. Moved to Florida for baseball. Ok, but apparently he was born in Florida, moved to Florida 8 years before he graduated high-school, was talking about not being used to the cold since his blood had thinned out. So, he must have been like 9 or 10 +/- or so when he moved to Florida it would seem, if he graduated at 17 or 18.. My question still stands, just tweek the part about being a South Florida boy and state, playing most of your baseball as a kid, teenager in Florida..... Same question...

King Old-Timey Member Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Some high school/draft questions - Did you know you were going to get drafted by the Blue Jays? Did any other teams show interest pre-draft? - Did you play against Bo Bichette, PK Morris or Travis Hosterman in high school? - Who was the best player you played against in high school and pro ball? I'm not sure how you would word this question, but I'd like to hear some funny stories from pro ball. As minor leaguers are always up to shenanigans. these are probably bad questions but I'll post more later today
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 holy f***, what is this? You canoe heads are always discussing whether Canada is a hindrance for signing FAs etc. It is a legitimate question, something interesting.. what do US high school kids think when they hear they might/are be drafted by the Blue Jays. Is there trepidation... The stock PC answer will be I am happy to be there and in the majors etc... Wondering if he had any other concerns question prior and what his peers talk about when discussing getting drafted by a team from a different country.. With what are you having comprehension problems..?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 No intelligent person is going to say anything bad about Canada, especially when it might affect the way they are perceived in their career. And that's what mainstream media does which annoys half of the people on this board. The Radio scouts don't have an audience to pander to for a quick sound bite of some American saying something either dumb or nice about Canada (why the f*** people enjoy these make zero sense to me). Radio Scouts should be looking into talking about training, pitching and what changes have happened in his life.

I do plan to address the "playing for a whole country thing" because a) it isn't true (people in Windsor are generally Tiger fans, people in Vancouver are generally M's fans, people in South Manitoba are generally Twins fans, etc.) And people in the other provinces despise Ontario and Toronto in particular. They think we're selling out to be more American, which is undoubtedly true. Part of it is definitely envy though. Sorry you fellas live in s***** places. But it will just be kinda ice breakery. My only contribution to the podcast will either be making him feel more comfortable so he's more open and less guarded, or pissing him off and having him leave immediately.
