Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 I like that the organization is finally not trying to create the illusion of competitive ball with duct tape. Embrace the s*** that is the Blue Jays for the foreseeable future, and let's build something special. It will take a few years, but I've been waiting 25 since the last championship...I have patience...just do it right. I thought AA was doing it right, he pulled a 180, still a good GM but he barrened our depth.

He was...and he did...but if you look at every Jays season from 1994-2018, the two you're gonna have the fondest memories of were 2015 and 2016. Would those have happened without the deadline moves? Don't know...I don't think so though.

Maico450 Verified Member Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Why is this even the least bit controversial? Surely you guys know me well enough by now to know that I'm not some casual fan screaming at the Jays for signing AAA trash. Of course all teams do it. Matter of fact I think we should tank this year. But think about it, we traded Diaz for a fringe prospect who probably won't contribute this year, said we were looking for a veteran SS and subsequently signed Sogard. We also need SPs and have watched numerous backend guys get taken off the board. The Sogard signing certainly doesn't preclude us from acquiring anyone better than him but nothing I've seen, read or heard about this offseason makes me think we will. I'm sure Sogard's team discussed this with the Jays before he signed as well. Not that he has any pull but he's going to go where he has a shot to make a team. So yeah, I think we are going to suck this year and the Sogard signing makes me slightly more certain of that. I hope I'm wrong though! Here I am, pissed that the only veteran that has been moved of the roster is Tulo. I expected to see a couple traded during the GM meetings, but not even a hint.

Martin and Morales probably aren't being moved (I'm okay with Martin sticking around, I'd like to see Morales jettisoned into the sun...) I hope Pillar gets moved, and I hope they just throw Alford into the fire in CF. Honestly, I don't think he'd be any worse with the bat than Pillar at worst, so what's the harm, he can clearly handle the position.
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 I hope Pillar gets moved. Shatkins might be trying to wait until pillar is hitting .342 in the middle of may before trading him. He seems to always have a hot start, would be nice to capitalize on it

It's a f***ing disgrace that over the course of the last 25 years the highlight for the Jays is losing in the ALCS in back to back years

Its just a matter of the Jays covering most/all of the salaries, which they are going to anyways. Smoak should be the easiest to move, Pillar and Morales a bit more difficult, Martin the hardest salary to digest, but the Jays ate 38M of Tulos salary. Martin may be an easier sell in ST when there are catcher injuries and teams need to add catcher depth. I am sure that Stro and Sanchez will return some quality pitching prospects back. If not now, then at the trade deadline.
