BTS Community Moderator Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 ok even I Knew Romano ... Beans as his friends call him was Canadian! Lol BTS is DUMB! Lol But really how can a team trade a player that is Technically not theirs yet even ? Does this not circumvent they True Nature of the Rule 5 Draft as shouldnt that player be handled the same as a First year drafted player and non tradeable as you not another team where to keep the player recieved on your major league roster or he was to be returned to his original club ! As this really if allowed I could see ways one could really abuse this espically money flush Or rebuilding teams get others to make your selections and then pay them for that player Interesting one could field a whole rule 5 team For as low as what 25-30 million cost in year one and net 25 players if held one year Hmmmmmm interesting! What Kind of Rule 5 team could one have Had or made this year ? Drugs are bad, kids

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 The dozens of people who are employed by this organization to see these prospects on a daily basis didn't feel that the two we lost were significant enough assets to protect. Whether or not they were right or wrong is to be determined, but don't be one of those morons who thinks he knows more about obscure prospects in the organization (that you've likely never seen for any significant portion of time) than the team itself. Newsflash: you don't, and neither does MLB.com, BA, or John Sickels. I can guarantee you that they didn't make a mistake and "forget" to protect Romano or Bergen; they didn't make the necessary moves beforehand because they didn't feel it was worthwhile to place them on the 40-man roster. This was savage! By the way folks, we got all the players back and still have Luciano... win-win!!!
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 I can't wait for the Canadian anger when Vladdy plays for the DR instead of Canada in the WBC. He can play for Canada once he learns how to speak English.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 He can play for Canada once he learns how to speak English. Can he speak French?
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 Can he speak French? Oui il peut.

What Kind of Rule 5 team could one have Had or made this year ? Rule 5 selection draft was a system created to avoid teams from stocking piling young talent in the minors. Any players signed at 18 with 5 years of service or any players signed at 19 with 4 years of service must be protected on the 40 man roster. Any players left unprotected are exposed to the rule 5 draft selection any team with an open spot on their 40 man roster can claim these unprotected players. Teams who select players from another teams under the rule 5 draft must pay a $100,000.00 compensation fee to the player original team. Now that player must be immediately added to the 40 man roster and must be on the 25 man active roster at season start and remain on the active for the entire season. If the selecting team wants to remove the rule 5 player from the active roster he's put on outright waivers any team can claim that player the only thing the same rule 5 rules applies he must be return to the active roster to his new team. If no one claims him he's return to his original team and they give back half of compensation money. His original team has the option to take him back and send him to the minor without protection or trade him to another team who in turn could trade him again and be directly sent to the minors.
