King Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 Jimmies will be rustled by this campaign
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 Joe Jimenez stands out like a sore thumb. Probably shouldn't be on the team
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Joe Jimenez stands out like a sore thumb. Probably shouldn't be on the team The one All-Star per team rule is screwing over a lot of deserving candidates. Happ and Jimenez look way out of place, Berrios shouldn't be there over Eddie Rosario. James Paxton hilariously robbed. What the f*** is Mitch Moreland doing on the team over Andrew Benintendi? Some egregious decisions here.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 The Oakland A's got robbed, Jed Lowrie and Matt Chapman have much stronger cases than some of the guys here.

MarcoSanchez Verified Member Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 So did Happ take the spot that should belong to Paxton. Paxton has maybe been the best pitcher in baseball this year.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 So did Happ take the spot that should belong to Paxton. Paxton has maybe been the best pitcher in baseball this year. Yeah no, he's been stellar but he doesn't even crack the top 5 starters this season thus far.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 MLB needs to get rid of this all 30 teams need to participate. Its ruining the event. Do a young stars game if you have too. Paxton not being in and Joe Jiminez on the team is awful.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Why take more than 1 First Basemen? If none deserve to be reserves don't take another and either have the Starter play all game or have another position with 1B experience play some innings there (there are 3 deserving SS reserves...let them all in). Notable misses...they took 2 Mariners that I couldn't give a s*** about...and left 2 deserving off (Paxton & Segura). Diaz can stay Tigers...tough to pick one but I suppose a reliever over a win is fine. A's...as mentioned Lowrie is a veteran having a career year at 34. Give him this one. I bet someone fakes an injury to get him there. NL...haven't looked yet
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 If you're going to do the one team rule, Castellanos deserved it over Jimenez Joe Jimenez is 5th in his position. Castellanos 12th OF. I see nothing wrong with Jimenez getting there if you are going to take 5 relievers.

I see nothing wrong with Jimenez getting there if you are going to take 5 relievers. By fWAR maybe but theres a bunch of relievers in that 0.7 fWAR to 1.4 range that are probably interchangeable talent wise
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 By fWAR maybe but theres a bunch of relievers in that 0.7 fWAR to 1.4 range that are probably interchangeable talent wise Heres the real question if Shane Greene was healthy would he have got the nod for the Tigers because of the saves...
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 By fWAR maybe but theres a bunch of relievers in that 0.7 fWAR to 1.4 range that are probably interchangeable talent wise Of course and I'd probably just take 12 starters and like 2 relievers if I had a say (I mean how stupid is it that players that play 3% of the time get 5 selections...but they won't take a 3rd SS), however they've been taking like 4 to 6 every year and then when you factor in the having to take a Tiger. I completely understand the choice. In the end no one gives a s*** about the All Star game.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Oh, just noticed Snell isn't on there either. Booo.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Take a page from the NHL. Have a rookie game or something similar. Then include that in the "one player from each team".
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 Good thing my All Star Game tradition involves not watching any of it. I recommend that people follow suit.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2018 Author Posted July 10, 2018 Salvador Perez made the allstar game with a 69 wRC+
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 Take a page from the NHL. Have a rookie game or something similar. Then include that in the "one player from each team". I like the idea, but you'd still probably run into years where the Orioles don't have anyone deserving to play in either game.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Mike Trout is such a cool cat.....great hearing him mic'd up in center field during the game.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Jack Morris - "yeah I think velocity is up about 4 MPH, but Buck I think you'd agree it's sacrificed some of the command. Coming from a guy with a career 3.27 BB/9. Good thing he didn't throw harder...

Coming from a guy with a career 3.27 BB/9. Good thing he didn't throw harder... Not to mention how much the strike zone has shrunk. Hentgen used to be a master at getting calls in the opposite batters box.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 All star players, minor league umpires?? WTF
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 All star players, minor league umpires?? WTF Did the MLB ones not want to do it lol.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Lol, Choo vs Hader. I wonder what the betting odds were for anything other than a strikeout there?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 So 3 AL pitchers are unavailable but aren’t going to use Happ unless it goes to extra innings. They couldn’t have replaced these guys lol
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Josh Hader is so ridiculous, he's exactly what an elite starter coming out of the bullpen looks like every time. His deception must be unreal.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 So 3 AL pitchers are unavailable but aren’t going to use Happ unless it goes to extra innings. They couldn’t have replaced these guys lol Sounded like they were available, just not going to be used unless absolutely necessary. Which now probably isn't the case.
