He's been fantastic in the 22 PA's this year. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean we can disregard the last 300 PA's of crap.

 

Would be nice if he can continue this mini hot streak though!

It is amazing that he has gone from zero to hero with the bat. And his wRC+ last year was LITERALLY ZERO.

I would love it if this is a legit change going forward. I've loved what I've seen from him this year (who hasn't?) but I need to see this over a larger sample size.

I like his defense and the way he calls a game, but realistically if we can salvage anything offensively from him I'll take it. Good to see him putting together competitive AB's and come up with some big hits the last few days. I'll be surprised if it continues long-term.

Martin is definitely a better hitter than Maile.

The one change that doesn't take long to stabilize is Exit Velocity. And he leads the team right now with an average EV over 96 MPH. Even if his BB/K numbers revert back to the last couple of years he should be a pretty good backup catcher if he can continue to hit the ball hard.

Any kind of offense from your backup catcher is a bonus. It would be extremely amusing if he outplays Martin though.
