Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 No plagiarism. He's not trying to pass it off as his own. Everyone knows it's from BA. I was kidding, mate!

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Out of curiosity where did you hear that? Kiley McD.

1:05 Ed: You said a couple of weeks back that Travis Swaggerty has maturity issues? I understand you don’t want to talk about them but are they something to be seriously concerned about?

1:06 Kiley McDaniel: Dont think it’s a long term concern but it seems to be making people hesitate when their jobs and millions are on the line. His swing getting out of whack seems like a bigger deal, to be honest.

https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/kiley-mcdaniel-chat-5-16-18/
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 I'm not going to pretend like I know much about the prospects in the draft, but from what I've read and watched I'm really leaning towards Connor Scott. Anyone else a fan of his?
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 (edited) He seems to have a high ceiling and was linked to the Jay’s pick on several occasions. It’s really tough to project a prep bat, and even harder to project a prep arm. You can evaluate the tools and look at their highschool success, but many of them never translate to the professional level. How an organization develops them for 3-5 years prior to their first stint at the majors makes just as much difference as the raw tools when drafted. And health generally is a hard thing to predict, even if they don’t show red flags in highschool. Scott missed some time from appendectomy and has a bit less data in an already scarce sample size of prep players. I think Connor Scott has a fairly high ceiling. A lefty bat that potentially sticks at center field, with double plus speed and plus arm. Scouting reports indicate he has recently added power to his already good hit tool. He draws comparisons to Kyle Tucker due to going to the same school and projected to having similar tools. It’s basically a high risk high reward pick. Personally, if one of the college bats drop to 12 I would rather take my chances there. Jonathan India or Travis Swaggerty shows a lot of upside and there’s college numbers to look at that projects well. Don’t get your hopes up though, the Jays have drafted a first round pitcher eight years in a row and heavily leaned towards college players the last 2 years. They also have weak pitching in the farm system. Although murmurs say they are leaning towards a prep player it could be a smokescreen. Edited May 18, 2018 by BlueRocky

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 and Ole Miss lefty Ryan Rolison was under consideration here until he gave up 11 runs at South Carolina two weeks ago. Lol seriously? Teams make decisions based on a single bad start?

Todd Verified Member Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 With the 2018 June draft coming in a couple of weeks. This team has three major needs. Pitching lots of it, Outfielders, and first baseman with power. Hopefully by the end of week I will have the first 12 rounds who the jays should pick.

Where on earth would we find a prospect like that?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 First baseman with power eh? Where on earth would we find a prospect like that? The easiest position (besides DH) to fill in a starting lineup.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Is Luke Heimlich really not going to be drafted again this year? 97 IP, 13-1, 2.97 ERA, 129Ks, 19BB's, just 16 xBH. Still just sitting low 90's. I don't think the Jays can be the team, as he might have border issues. OSU has had no problems with him pitching for them...got to figure someone won't in the majors too.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I hope he doesn't. Molesting a 6 year old in unforgivable... Yes, he was 15, but f***, you should have a pretty f***ing good idea of right and wrong by that age.

Yes, he was 15, but f***, you should have a pretty f***ing good idea of right and wrong by that age. It's an interesting case. He and his family still claim he only plead guilty because he was a minor and it was easier to take the probation than face a hearing. I honestly thought Oregon St. would just say goodbye to him and he'd have to go through indy ball if he wanted to make it. I do actually believe in rehabilitation and just went through a job where there were multiple convicted criminals working with us. I didn't care about their past. But I'm also good with athletes losing their career when they do wrong in their personal lives too (if Osuna never plays baseball again I'd be okay with that..but on the other side if he does something positive with his life after I'll give him credit for that too). As an MLB team considering everything athletes do, where do you draw the moral line? I don't know if a 15 year old doing anything sexual with their 6 year old niece is worse than a 22 year old punching his girlfriend. I just know both are wrong. As long as multi-million contracts are a possibility I'll probably lean towards him not deserving a shot but that probably makes me as much as a hypocrite as the MLB. Edited May 22, 2018 by TheHurl

He pled guilty to abusing his niece from ages 4 to 6, and the abuse only stopped when she told her parents (the 6 year old knew it was wrong). It seems incredibly unlikely that someone would plead guilty to being a paedophile when they were innocent. Unless Osuna literally tried to kill his girlfriend, then yes this is worse than a 22 year old punching his girlfriend. Basically there's zero chance a MLB team signs Heimlich.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Yeah sexual abuse of a child is worse than beating someone to death.. I can't see any MLB team taking the chance. There was an article that I saw that basically quoted scouts as saying their teams weren't even letting them talk to the kid.

I'm probably in the minority but I would be fine with the Jays taking a late flier on him but I also understand that's never going to happen
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I think someone will draft him. We've seen all kinds of criminals in the league. Josh Lueke was charged with rape AND butt-rape. He then lied to police about ever having contact with the person (proven by DNA). He ended up pleading guilty to kidnapping or something like that and he got like a month in jail and a few years of probation. Two different MLB teams traded for him after this happened. On the other hand, Tampa Bay got continuously roasted for rostering him and they are like, the least popular team in the league, so maybe this precedent works against my point. Hmmm.

Where did you read that? All I've heard is that there was an accusation and he plead guilty but still claims it never happened. It's all terrible but sexual assault could mean that he showed a minor his penis. Would you view him differently. Honestly I'm just playing devil's advocate here but there is so little details available.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Fair enough I thought those were sealed. I should have researched more instead of reading the Oregon St. coaching version Yeah the details are much worse than inappropriate playing or anything like that. Plus taking place over a 2 year period not a one off incident. The Oregonian broke the story when he failed to re-register as a sex offender after turning 21 at a new address and so he was called to court and the paper found out. Link to story - The Oregonian "Most juvenile cases are kept sealed. But Washington considers the type of crime Heimlich committed to be so serious that the records are not confidential for juvenile offenders. And since 1997, Oregon has required people convicted of felony sex offenses elsewhere as juveniles to register as sex offenders here."
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 Fair enough I thought those were sealed. I should have researched more instead of reading the Oregon St. coaching version As disgusting as what was alleged he did i would still agree with you that it shouldn't forbid him from ever playing professional baseball. He was a kid, and yes, of course he was old enough to know it was wrong but when your 15 you can't appreciate or understand the consequences your actions have. That part of your brain doesn't develop until your early 20's. If he wanted to be a youth baseball coach i would have a lot of more reservations. He completed his treatment programs, paid a price and like you i believe in rehabilitation and second chances. I don't think an incredibly disgusting act when you're 15 should define you for the rest of your life. From all accounts he was a good teammate, and had no issues during his time at Oregon State.
