Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2017 Author Posted August 1, 2017 Jays are 6 and 9 on walk-offs this year, that's crazy! Garcia as expected is on the 7 day DL Concussion protocol.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Nice to see JD coming around !! Pay him!!!!!!!!!!!
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Gibby better lay into this ump (and umpires in general) after the game...total ******** timeouts again
wk680 Verified Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Pay him!!!!!!!!!!! Yes but how much? Assuming he can finish this season up strong, I still think I would offer him 4 yr / $120M for 2018-2021 with a 5th year option ($5 M buyout). If he wouldn't accept that, I would shop him.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 Alford hurt again? Is he?
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Is he? Play at the plate with him running in the first then he left in the 4th...could be anything I guess

I really think he would sign that....at least I hope. Would be great for him and the team. Would be great to have his presence when Vlad and Bo come up as well

Would be great to have his presence when Vlad and Bo come us as well Yeah the interesting part will be what happens with Vlad (and Bo) defensively. If they were to end up at 1B and 2B, respectively, that keeps 3B open for JD. I guess Vlad could end up in the corner OF also.

The front office will have lots of options in the offseason. The price for Donaldson will be kind of hard to gage depending on how he finished the season
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 That collision was gross, they're very lucky, that's if Garcia ends up fine.

I would sign him for 5/125 in a heartbeat.
Cleveland Steamer Verified Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Pay him!!!!!!!!!!! Why pay for a declining asset? Trade him next season for some grade A prospect.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Why pay for a declining asset? Trade him next season for some grade A prospect. see above.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Why pay for a declining asset? Trade him next season for some grade A prospect. Not always a guarantee though...depends on the market in the offseason and what exactly teams are offering. Plus if Donaldson wants to stay for a reduced price he still has at least 3-4 good-great years left
Cleveland Steamer Verified Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 see above. Problem is we don't have many "young guns". You can pay another veteran a lot less to mentor.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Problem is we don't have many "young guns". You can pay another veteran a lot less to mentor. No reason JD couldnt be like Beltre. We are not going to be s***** team for the next 5 years. In terms of young players coming up before 2020 a reasonable expectation would be Vlad jr, Gurriel, Alford, DSJr, Bichette, Hernandez, SRF, Pompey etc. plus acquisitions and future prospects. The future is not bleak.

You can pick up vets on their last legs like Beltran or Holliday, or you can retain a player in his early 30's who still has potential to be a 4-5 WAR player as well as a team leader.

Beltre is the exception; not the norm.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 God damn bloops, getting on my nerves.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 Holy crap... what a catch by Jackson.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Holy crap... what a catch by Jackson. How does the ump know for sure he hangs on to it when he falls over the fence out of play?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 How does the ump know for sure he hangs on to it when he falls over the fence out of play? They trust the process, but with replay now it's moot.

Yeah but Donaldson will 'only' be 32 next season, so a 4 year deal covers his 32-35 year old seasons. Beltre is much older currently at 38. Even if Donaldson produced half the WAR of Beltre in his age 32-35 seasons it justifies the contract I suggested
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 How does the ump know for sure he hangs on to it when he falls over the fence out of play? It's more like an educated guess...I haven't seen it, but usually as long as they get up quickly or just doesn't look like they are trying to pick it up they call it a catch
