Assuming it is going to be hard very hard to move their contracts we will see Tulo and Martin back. Along with Morales and Smoak and Pillar. Travis will be back. JD will be moved before free agency at the end of the next season.

So the core will be tulo, Martin, Morales, Pillar, Smoak, Travis. The other 4 are up for grabs.

The outfielders next year are more likely to be Pillar, Alford, Smith Jr, and Carrera as the 4th one.

What about Pearce ?

On the flip side, if Smoak can produce at close to the level he has so far this season, wouldn't you want to keep him unless you plan on a major rebuild? Maybe it depends how much they think of Tellez (probably not much right now considering his performance at AAA to date).

If Smoak and Pearce both have a good second half of the season, I'd trade whichever one gets the best return. Really don't like Pearce in LF especially when he's a year older next year.

Perhaps. I have my doubts on DSJ but yeah it is a reasonable proposition.

Nah, OF next year will be Zeke in RF, Pillar in CF, and Pearce in LF with Pompey as the 4th OF. He's out of options I think.

another week of baseball like this from the jays and it's officially over.

at this point I'd be happy to see some contracts traded and get to see some of the young guys play in Toronto. might as well start to build for next year now.

That's a good plan. And then whichever one is remaining plays 1B everyday.

ETA: Jays will likely (and should) strongly favor Smoak over Pearce because he is a switch hitter and Pearce is too injury prone).

Exactly.

However, judging by our luck so far this season, after the all star break Smoak turns into a pumpkin and Pearce gets injured!

Projection on fangraphs still has the Jays with 82 wins (tied with Rays for 2nd wild card). I wonder how much they will downgrade that projection if they get swept this weekend.

Shatkins will not want to embarrass themselves by fielding an awful team which is why they will keep guys like Smoak and Pillar who are on team friendly contracts.

2018

Pillar

Travis

Smoak

Morales

Tulo

Alford

Martin

are all reasonable propositions. My gut tells me they are souring on Pompey.

Chris Sale is ruining Canada Day. f*** him.

It's not like he is doing it all on his own. Liriano has been being having another stinker, and then there is the Jays 'offense'.

I think there's a chance Pompey gets traded. Part of a package to get us a starter. I don't think this front office is as high on him as our old one.

I love that when I come to the game i don't have to worry about rain delays or rain outs.

But f*** the atmosphere and experience is s*** with the roof closed.

Yeah, pretty sure the Jays are doing a good job all their own on ruining Canada Day game....the games before...and the rest of the season.

I am not so sure Travis is a reasonable proposition at this point. We don't even know what is going on with that knee (although it sounds like Saunders who came back from it, albeit at a permanently reduced level). Can this guy's body actually hold up and should the Jays look elsewhere for an everyday 2nd baseman?

Yeah could easily see him going in the summer.

Pompey will likely be a September call up with a last chance to impress and try to win a job for next year.

What is the Jays record for wins vs losses on Canada Day anyway?

Not sure about the overall record, but of course there was the 19 inning fiasco last year. Actually in 2015 they pounded the Sox 11-2.

ETA: in 2015 that was a 4 game series in which the July 1st game was the Jays only win of the series

Too much upside on his bat to walk away though.

Yes and he is cheap, so he is not necessarily going anywhere. BUT like I say, if you depend on him to be your everyday 2nd baseman and he can't answer the bell, you need to have a better backup plan than they do currently.
