There are 30 academies in place right now built between the clubs and the MLB, and are run by the MLB office in the DR. Twenty two of them have dormitories in place. Nothing will change except for how the players are chosen and no team can make a deal with the family of (or Uncle Buscone) some 13 year old.

Well MLB's proposal was to raise the age of international players being drafted to 18 and wanted the players to workout at an MLB facility for 2 years once they turn 16. Thats a massive fundamental change.

That would be nice. I thought that may have been possible with the early stock market reaction on election night, but then everything stabilized again, as expected.

Actually stock market hasn't stabalized, it's gone up instead.... I know what you mean though.

CDN had a record one-night drop on election night. And Trump is going to try to raise the USD. Probably gonna be even harder now.

Also Trump is going to try and open up a lot of energy resources, this may keep the price of oil low, which, at least as I understand it, will keep Canadian dollar low.

Sources: Club officials understand that if sufficient progress isn't made this week in CBA talks, teams won't participate in winter meetings

A lockout after the highest rated World Series since god knows when is what is best for the game. Keep it up guys. Baseball has already become a regional sport that is losing popularity in the States (and in Canada when the Jays aren't a playoff team). Not good for the game at all, but still time to work something out.

That doesn't make any sense. Trump has railed against trade imbalance, particularly with the Chinese, of which he specifically called out their currency devaluation (ie $US is overvalued relative to the Renminbi) as an issue.

Trump may enact policies that inadvertently raise the US Dollar against the Canadian Dollar, like lowering taxes to stimulate national (and foreign) investment in US borders. But I haven't heard him say anything specific about wanting to raise the dollar itself.

Also, traditionally the stock market goes up when the $US is weak and when the stock market tanks, the $US moves up in "flight to safety".

USA Today: MLB Officials are feeling 'cautiously optimistic' that a deal is struck by Thursday and no 'rash changes' are to be expected

Simply, with Major League Baseball expected to exceed $10 billion in annual revenue, coming off a historic World Series with the greatest TV ratings in 25 years, there’s too much money flowing for anyone to dare stop it, and no rash changes are expected in a new CBA.

There won’t be an international draft, or rash luxury tax penalties, but subtle changes, two baseball officials briefed on the negotiations told USA TODAY Sports.

Well at least this is good news. Maybe the real FA market will open tomorrow and this board can have coherent conversations again.

No international draft, but int'l signings are said to be capped to 5-6M per team per year.

. @MLB teams will no longer forfeit first-round pick to sign free agents under new CBA, source says.

Turns out draft-pick compensation won't disappear. Teams over threshold lose a 2nd- & 5th-round pick. Under threshold: lose 3rd-round pick.

That's just silly. If you aren't penalizing them the 1st rounder, then don't penalize them at all.

Just so I'm clear... Will we be getting first round compensation for Eddie and Joey or does this agreement f*** the Jays.

C'mon man... it obviously won't affect this off-season.

I wouldn't think so... But didn't a similar situation happen with the last agreement that affected that offseason?

Important clarification: Change to FA compensation structure goes into effect for 2017-2018 offseason; prior rules apply to existing class.

Good. I'm happy now.

Yeah the rules were not going to take into effect this winter since the QO was already offered and two players accepted. Wouldn't be fair to change it now. So nothing changes on the Jays end, and they'll still lose a pick if they sign Fowler.
