I'll say Thole, Barney and Loup are non tendered. Stroman and Carrera (never thought i'd say that) will be tendered contracts.

Sounds about right to me, but I'd be ok with bringing back Barney for depth, preferably at a lower rate though.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I think you're right, with the exception of Barney. He probably gets enough on the open market that non-tendering him and signing him for less isn't realistic.

Sure we could get some journeyman at the minimum salary, but IMO it's worth a small premium to secure someone who's already shown he can play that role for us. Seems fair value too - Cliff Pennington got $3m for 2 years from the Angels, out of his cameo for us last year.
flafson Verified Member Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Looks like Stroman is going to be a super two. If I'm Shatkins, I probably extend him now.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Barney had a 1.5 WAR as a utility infielder. He should be and will be tendered. Man, was that two week stint in the pen in 2014 the reason for Stro being a Super 2? Ugh. Alex gon Alex.

He was too cocky and need to be humbled

Solid utility infielder. Not exceptional offensively, but provides what you need from a utiliyman. Carrera will be brought back. We love to hate him, but he's earned another contract. Stroman, no words needed. Loup is who I am on the fence about. He did used to be one of our top relievers a couple years ago. $1.2 may be a bit much based on the past couple years, but I'm on the fence about whether to simply cut ties or give him one more shot.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2016 Author Posted October 10, 2016 Eric Hosmer (5.146) – $13.3MM Do the Royals Tender him a contract? 2015 he put up a 3.4 fWAR season followed up by -0.2 fWAR in 2016. Royals need to cut salary. What do you think?

LH reliever will be an area of concern. Cecil is a free agent too so I could see them offering Loup arb just to have a bird in the hand though they'll definitely want to bring in someone better as well whether that's resigning Cecil or ponying up for someone else.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 The thread consensus seems to be on my side when it comes to Barney but I'd still like to add one point in. Just recall what Izturis signed for. Compared to that this is a bargain.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 This Jays front office seems to place security at the forefront when making deals or FA signings. For example, signing Happ & Estrada early last offseason to shore up the rotation rather then waiting on other names in December; resigning Justin Smoak if EE departs as a FA; trade for Melvin Upton Jr with Saunders & Bautista FA's etc. It seems like they always want to have positions filled regardless. So it wouldn't shock me if they brought back Loup, given that Cecil is a FA. I don't mind them tendering Barney a contract. He's been a valuable utility infielder and is better than Ryan Goins. Carrera will probably be back based on what he has done at the end of the season and as a 4th outfielder, he isn't that bad I suppose.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I believe Ryan Goins will be out of options next year so it probably comes down to going cheap with Goins or signing Barney and losing Goins altogether.

Ryan Goins CAN NOT stick.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I think you tender them all outside of Loup and Thole. Might be able to trade Zeke for something useful. Hard to imagine hes gets non tendered at this point.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Think you bring Loup back on an MiLB deal.

That money is peanuts on the rest of them.
