Shapiro's fault too. But Gibbons' numerous mistakes, and Smoak shouldn't see the field.

Why the F isn't Jesus on the 40 man and a Sept call up. Hard not to offer more than Smoak at this point.

 

Neither should be starting this time of year on a contender regardless.

I remember reading he use to give Olerud a hard time for not pulling enough, wonder if that was true?

 

It was true... he cut his playing time down, same goes for Green.

I hate him just as much as anyone, but what's Gibbons supposed to do? Sit him on the bench every game?

Righty on the mound, EE can't play 1B everyday, short porch + wind blowing to right. Should have been a Perfect combo for Smoak

Our starting 1B next year. Luckily he's been soooo bad that they will have to rethink it now. I'm 99% positive that was the plan when they re-signed him.

 

No justifying that extension at all. He doesn't make enough contact to tap into his one postive tool. Power.

No way. This is a big market team they know a $4MM 1B is not the long term solution, however I do think that they still have hopes that he still didn't hit his full potential. $4M gets you a bench player these days

Pretty much. The object of the game is to win. Right now, Smoak should be riding pine. If Upton struggles badly, or EE gets hurt, he's in again.

Smoak is a pretty useless bench player. Especially in the American League
