Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 I don't think they can DFA Thole and have him available for Dickey's next start. Unless the DFA rules change in September. I assume will just carry 3 catchers for a few days. They can send him to Bluefield, there season ends Thursday. He can come back up after that.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Lets Go Blue Jays!!!!!!!!!!!!! Must Win Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I assume will just carry 3 catchers for a few days. That or they are taking Dickey out of the rotation. They have to make a decision on Lirano or Dickey at some point. My theory is this: We still have Erik Kratz. He'll be up and he'll catch a Dickey start before we can recall Thole after clearing waivers Or alternatively we have Martin catch Dickey and Navarro catches Estrada until Thole gets eligible for recall Either way I don't think we're seeing the end of Thole still yet
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 Could someone please swing at a fastball down the pipe with 2 strikes? Jesus Christ.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 They can send him to Bluefield, there season ends Thursday. He can come back up after that. Nice call!! They did it last year! http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2015/8/28/9223789/josh-thole-optioned-to-rookie-level-bluefield-blue-jays-to-take In a pretty brilliant move, the Blue Jays option catcher Josh Thole all the way down to the rookie-level Bluefield Blue Jays in order to take advantage of major league recall rules. Normally, a player that is sent down to the minor leagues would be required to remain there for 10 calendar days; however a player can be recalled immediately following the end of the season if the minor league team's season ends prior to those 10 days. Bluefield's last game is on September 1, so Thole can rejoin the Blue Jays on September 2, perfectly timed for R.A. Dickey's next scheduled start.

They did it last year! http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2015/8/28/9223789/josh-thole-optioned-to-rookie-level-bluefield-blue-jays-to-take Last year it was easier because he had an option. Now he has to go through the waiver process. Not saying he will be claimed but it complicates things.
