After losing series to Rochester and Charlotte over the weekend, the Herd falls to the G-Braves for the fifth time this year, and Buffalo drops to 2-16 over their last 18 games against Gwinnett. A rough outing for Bisons' starter Mike Bolsinger, who allowed six earned runs in 2.2 innings of work, overshadowed the Herd's 11 hits and seven walks as a club. The Bisons had a baserunner reach in every inning, yet they drop to three games under .500, at 64-67. The Herd took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first against Braves' starter Aaron Blair. Jesus Montero plated Dalton Pompey and Darrell Ceciliani with a two-run double. The inning ended abruptly, however, when Montero was thrown out at the plate attempting to score on a hit up the middle by Andy Burns. Montero finished the game 2-3, with two walks, and a rare infield single in the ninth inning. The G-Braves quickly knotted-up the score at two in the bottom of the first against Bolsinger. Rio Ruiz cut Buffalo's lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first, knocking a double that scored Brandon Snyder, and former-Bison Sean Kazmar brought Ruiz home with a RBI single into left field. A three-run blast off the bat of Emilio Bonifacio in the second gave the Braves a 5-2 cushion. In the third, Mel Rojas, Jr. came through with a two-run home run, as the G-Braves pulled to a 7-2 lead. Blair stranded two runners in the second, inducing Ceciliani into a long fly-out to centerfield, keeping the game tied at two. In the third, Blair picked Andy Burns off first, leaving runners on the corners. Casey Kotchman extended his hitting streak to 10 in the fourth, taking Blair deep for a 405-foot home run. In the third inning, Jason Berken relived Bolsinger, who struck out five hitters, but allowed six hits, and seven runs, with six of them earned. Back to back doubles by Reid Brignac and Brandon Snyder plated Gwinnett's first run in three innings in the bottom of the sixth off Berken, who allowed three hits and the lone earned run in 3.1 innings of relief. Matt Dermody and Dustin Antolin each tossed scoreless frames in relief as well. Aaron Blair left after 5.0 innings, six hits, four walks, and three earned runs. He was relieved by Jason Hursh in the sixth, who got Dalton Pompey to ground out with two runners on in the first of two innings of work. Hursh allowed his first earned run at Triple-A this season in the seventh, with Andy Burns knocking-in Darrell Ceciliani with a single. Shae Simmons allowed a Montero infield-single, and hit Kotchman with a pitch, but sealed the Braves' win by fanning catcher Erik Kratz. Game two of the Bisons' three-game series in Gwinnett will take place on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Casey Lawrence will take the mound for the Herd, and will be opposed by Matt Wisler. BISONS NOTES: Jesus Montero now has a 14-game hitting streak, the longest active streak in the IL, and longest streak for a Bison in 2016… Dustin Antolin has 13-straight scoreless outings out of the bullpen, and has stuck out 27 hitters in his last 21.2 innings of work… Dalton Pompey now has a stolen base in consecutive games, a feat which he previously accomplished on July 19 and 20 in a series against Norfolk. http://i.imgur.com/dpcqVDe.png http://i.imgur.com/Z22uCTw.png http://i.imgur.com/mbnTV8x.png http://i.imgur.com/46hpkCf.png http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/7/4/181578474/cuts/Tellez_Rowdy_7266_schofield_cd2mdf10_mz8p79el.jpg Portland - Rowdy Tellez and Ryan Lavarnway drove in first inning runs with doubles, but Portland scored the next eight runs en route to an 8-2 win over the Fisher Cats on Tuesday at Hadlock Field in Maine. Jalen Beeks (5-3) picked up the win, allowing two runs in five innings. Sea Dogs pitchers, including relievers Williams Jerez, Ty Buttrey and Luis Ysla did not allow New Hampshire a hit after the fourth inning. New Hampshire (62-67) struck in the top of the first inning. Christian Lopes walked and scored on a double by team RBI leader Tellez. Lavarnway followed with a double to give the Fisher Cats a 2-0 lead. Portland (50-76) made it 2-1 in the bottom of the first inning. Yoan Moncada walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a double by Nate Freiman. The Sea Dogs took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. Cole Sturgeon and Tzu-Wei Lin singled and Moncada homered to make it 4-2. Portland added three more in the third inning with the big hit a two-run single by Jake Romanski off starter and losing pitcher Jeremy Gabryszwski (7-11). Romanski doubled to start the Sea Dogs fifth inning, scoring on a single by Lin to give Portland an 8-2 lead. Jeremy Gabryszwski (7-11) took the loss for the Fisher Cats. Alonzo Gonzalez, Wil Browning and Colton Turner combined to hold Portland to one run over the final 4.2 innings. The Fisher Cats and Sea Dogs meet one more time at Hadlock Field on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Coverage with Tyler Murray begins at 5:45 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network. LHP Shane Dawson (9-4, 3.86) starts for New Hampshire against Portland RHP Kevin McAvoy (8-7, 5.64). Dunedin hit the board first when DH Max Pentecost drove in CF Anthony Alford in the top of the first with an RBI groundout. In the bottom of the second, a slow-rolling infield single by 1B Kevin Cornelius brought CF Rashad Crawford to third with two outs. He came around to score as RF Jeff Hendrix sent a ground ball to 3B Matt Dean, who bobbled and recovered to tag out Cornelius after Crawford touched home. The single was the only hit Santos allowed. In a tie game in the third, 2B Jorge Mateo roped a ball to left that put him on third base with one out, thought to be a triple. After the play was over, Santos threw to first on an appeal and Mateo was called out for not touching the bag. Dunedin took the lead shortly after and did not look back. LF David Harris singled with two outs to score a pair in the fourth followed by a passed ball that brought him home as well. The fourth inning chased LHP Justus Sheffield (L, 2-1) who allowed twice the amount of runs he had given up since joining the Yankees four starts ago. Pentecost added insurance in the seventh with an RBI-single while Santos was dealing and Thon and McBroom tallied their home runs in the ninth for an eventual 8-3 victory. It was McBroom's 20th on the year and Thon's fourth over his last three games. Dunedin sends RHP Justin Shafer to the mound on Wednesday to opposed RHP Yefrey Ramirez. http://i.imgur.com/s4VL9mB.png http://i.imgur.com/L27ytl7.png http://i.imgur.com/h1wP8SV.png http://i.imgur.com/svNH7CZ.png http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/1/8/186061218/cuts/Atkinson_640_ikkaclnr_q22z51he.jpg DAYTON, OH - Behind seven strong innings from Ty Boyles, the Dayton Dragons (22-36, 43-85) dropped the Lansing Lugnuts (28-30, 64-64), 5-3, on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field. The Lugnuts' loss, coupled with the Great Lakes Loons' 9-2 win over Fort Wayne, tipped the Lugs a half-game behind the Loons for the Eastern Division's second-half wild card. Boyles (Win, 6-8) struck out seven batters while scattering five hits and a walk, allowing only an eighth-inning unearned run. Lansing made a ninth-inning push, drawing within two on back-to-back RBI singles from Juan Tejada and Connor Panas. With the tying runs aboard, Sarkis Ohanian bore down and struck out Ryan Metzler before retiring Andrew Guillotte on a popout to short. Lugs starter Justin Maese (Loss, 1-3) gave up only one run in five innings - a third-inning RBI triple from Zack Shields - while walking three and striking out four. Dayton added needed insurance against Kirby Snead in the sixth on consecutive two-run singles from Brantley Bell and Nick Senzel, increasing the lead to 5-0. In the loss, southpaw Daniel Young tossed two scoreless innings for the Lugnuts, Lane Thomas and Justin Atkinson both went 2-for-4, and Juan Kelly singled in the ninth inning to extend his on-base streak to 24 straight games. Right-hander Jordan Romano (3-2, 2.37) starts the third game of the four-game series, slated for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dayton counters with right-hander Jesus Reyes (5-4, 2.15). The Lugnuts return home to Cooley Law School Stadium for a three-game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods from August 31-September 2, the final homestand of the regular season.
