wamco Verified Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 I remember listening to PrimeTime that day. The next day McGowan suggested trading Travis (his reasoning being the Jays had lots of depth at middle infield - Goins + Barney ?) for a 4th/5th starter and was surprised when Shulman did not agree with him. Shulman said if the Jays really wanted to get a 4th/5th starter he would prefer to trade some prospects rather than Travis. Great story
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 I don't think McGowan realizes that Goins is a AAA player and Barney is a bench player who can fill in for starters to give them a day off Guys like McGowan (sic) really benefit from not being too knowledgeable. Makes it easier for uninformed listeners to relate to them and it makes it easier for them to go off on random tangents if they don't have the best information at their disposal. It's good for the brand. To some extent, I think it might even be somewhat disingenuous and willful ignorance because he seems smarter than how he's acting. When I started to notice the extent to which he would willfully ignore what more informed people than him were saying, I started to feel like the whole thing was just a staged farce full of false outrage and bluster and tuned him out. The funny thing, he's not even close to being the worst sports broadcaster. Guys like Tim and Sid make him sound like Einstein.
