In the middle contest of a three-game series at Coca-Cola Field, Buffalo was held to just four hits, coupled with three home runs by Lehigh Valley. A big five-run top of the second inning gave the IronPigs a comfortable lead, while lefty James Russell tossed six-shutout innings in the contest. Two of Russell's three wins at Triple-A this season have come against the Herd. Cam Perkins took Bisons' starter Scott Diamond deep in the bottom of the second, knocking a two-out line-drive shot off the left field foul pole, putting Lehigh Valley up 1-0. Emmanuel Burriss continued the two out magic for the IronPigs, driving home Brock Stassi with a RBI single. To cap off the inning, Taylor Featherston connected for a three run home run, his 11th of the year. "The last time [Diamond] faced these guys at their place they hit him around there too," Bisons' manager Gary Allenson said postgame. Diamond allowed eight earned runs in a loss to the IronPigs on June 18. "He just had that mulligan inning, two outs and nobody on. I think he got away from his changeup, maybe went to his curveball a little too much." Diamond settled down after his 37-pitch second inning, not allowing a hit from the third to the fifth inning, before Darin Ruf doubled to begin the sixth. On a single by Cam Perkins later in the inning, Bisons' centerfielder Dalton Pompey threw Ruf out at home plate attempting to score. The Bisons' starter left after allowing five earned runs in 6.0 innings of work, and falls to 6-8 on the year. In the bottom of the first, Bisons' leftfielder Darrell Ceciliani ripped a line drive to center, out of the reach of a sliding Darnell Sweeney. Two batters later, Jesus Montero gave a Russell pitch a drive to left center, which stayed in the park for a long, inning-ending out. Tony Sanchez doubled to lead off the bottom of the third, but was stranded at third when James Russell fanned Ceciliani, ending the inning. Ben Rowen relieved Diamond in the seventh, and Andrew Knapp scored Nick Williams with a RBI single in the eighth, following Williams' fifth triple of the year. James Russell tossed 6.0 innings of shutout ball for Lehigh Valley, yielding just two hits. Phil Klein entered in the bottom of the seventh, and benefitted from a sparkling play from his third baseman, Taylor Featherston. Casey Kotchman chopped a line drive to third, which Featherston dove to stop, and fired a strong throw to first, retiring the side. In the top of the ninth, J.P. Crawford made it 9-0 with a three-run home run off Colt Hynes, drilling a ball over the right-centerfield wall in the pouring rain, which began to fall in the late innings. The Herd showed some life in the bottom of the ninth, as Matt Dominguez drilled his second-straight ninth inning home run in as many days. "It was probably a moot point, that courtesy solo homer by Matt Dominguez in the ninth inning," Allenson said. "Last night it was a little closer, and tonight it wasn't very close. A delay followed the Dominguez' blast, which resulted in an early stoppage of play with one out in the bottom of the ninth. The ninth inning rain delay was the first at Coca-Cola Field this season. The Bisons now fall further back in the IL North, trialing Rochester, Lehigh Valley, and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the division. "I think we found out in the last week and a half that Scranton and Lehigh Valley are significantly better than us right now," Allenson said postgame. "We have to have our A-game working from all three spots, our pitching, hitting and defense, and were not getting it done right now. We still have about 50 games to go, but we're dropping back, and we need to start turning it around." The Bisons' last game before the All-Star break will take place on Sunday at 1:05 p.m from Coca-Cola Field. Casey Lawrence will be opposed by IronPigs' starter Anthony Vasquez, in the finale of the Herd's three-game home series. BISONS NOTES: Matt Dominguez takes the team lead in home runs away from Jesus Montero, becoming the first Bison to reach 10 homers this season… Tony Sanchez extended his on base streak to an IL best 23 straight games with his third inning double… Scott Diamond has now allowed eight hits or more in five of his last 10 starts, and has given up 13 earned runs in his last 11.0 innings against Lehigh Valley… The three home runs allowed by the Bisons ties the most the team has given up this season. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre connected for three homers against Buffalo on July 6. http://i.imgur.com/v6qs6u6.png http://i.imgur.com/JS870H7.png http://i.imgur.com/xjUc3SX.png http://i.imgur.com/DP9Qr5u.png http://i.imgur.com/YyMDY2e.png FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 9, 2016) - The Fort Myers Miracle clocked three home runs en route to a 6-2 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays at Hammond Stadium on Saturday night. The Miracle tagged Dunedin starter Brad Allen for a pair of runs in the first inning. With one out, A.J. Murray reached first on a base on balls. Nick Gordon then smacked a single into center field and Murray moved up to second. After Trey Vavra struck out, LaMonte Wade scalded a ground ball that bounced through the legs of Ryan McBroom at first base. The error allowed Murray to score from second and Gordon to advance to third. With runners on the corners, Joe Maloney pulled a single into left to plate Gordon, 2-0. In the top of the second, the D-Jays tied the game. Miracle starter Sam Clay gave up a pair of singles to McBroom and Gunnar Heidt to start the frame. Dickie Joe Thon's fly out to right advanced McBroom to third. With runners on the corners, Reeves singled to center to pick up an RBI and plate McBroom. Michael De La Cruz followed with a knock to right and Heidt crossed home, 2-2. The next three Miracle runs were scored on solo homers. In the second, Daniel Kilhle launched a majestic drive into the SunHarvest Citrus Lawn on an 0-1 pitch from Allen (4-5), 3-2. The home run was Kihle's first in the Florida State League. In the third, Trey Vavra snapped an 0-for-18 skid with a solo blast to left center field, 4-2. Vavra now leads the team with eight homers. Allen exited the game after three innings with four runs allowed, two earned, on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Fort Myers extended the lead in the fourth. Dunedin reliever Geno Encina climbed the hill and retired the first batter. A.J. Murray stepped up with one out and mashed an 0-1 pitch beyond the fence in left center field for a third Miracle solo homer. Murray's second of the season put the Miracle up by three runs. Fort Myers was not finished in the fourth. Gordon reached on a two-base throwing error by second base Dickie Joe Thon. After Vavra flew out to left, Wade hit a slow bouncer to third base. De La Cruz's throw pulled McBroom of the bag. Gordon never stopped around third and scored to put the Miracle up 6-2. Clay (1-0) lasted five innings and scattered nine hits in his Miracle debut while allowing two runs with three walks and two strikeouts. Nick Anderson tossed two scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh. Yorman Landa hurled a clean eighth, but gave up a pair of runs in the ninth before sealing the win. The Miracle (46-40, 12-5) continue a series with the Blue Jays (45-41, 12-5) at Hammond Stadium on a DQ Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Fans can visit Dairy Queen restaurants in Lee and Collier Counties to pick up a complimentary general admission ticket. The Lugnuts enjoyed their fourth walk-off win of the year and improved to 6-1 in extra-inning games in 2016. A three-run Lake County fifth inning against Jordan Romano gave the visitors a 3-1 lead, but the Nuts received six scoreless innings from their bullpen and came from behind to win for the third straight day. Justin Atkinson's RBI single in the seventh off Captains starter Shao-Ching Chiang brought Lansing within a run. La Prise tied the game in the eighth by drawing a leadoff walk against reliever Cortland Cox, moving to second on a Jake Thomas sacrifice bunt, taking third on a deep flyout by Max Pentecost and scoring on a Yoiber Marquina wild pitch. In the bottom of the ninth, La Prise had a chance to win the game - but Marquina struck him out with two outs and runners at second and third. Redemption arrived two innings later. Ryan Hissey led off the 11th against Christian Meister (Loss, 1-1) with a single to right field, taking third on a Carl Wise single up the middle. Meister struck out both Austin Davis and J.C. Cardenas before La Prise squared up a 2-2 pitch and dropped a line drive in front of left fielder Bobby Ison. The blow made a victor out of Josh DeGraaf (Win, 5-5), who pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings to cap a parade of effective relief from Nate Abel, Ryan Cook and Daniel Young. Starter Romano allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits in five innings, striking out five. La Prise finished the game 2-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored. Thomas added an RBI single and two walks, and Wise went 3-for-5. The third game of the four-game series is at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, featuring Lake County right-hander Casey Shane (5-6, 4.10) against Lansing lefty Tayler Saucedo (4-7, 5.11). I watched it, as did 43211234. Lizardo just hit a grand slam. Maese looks as advetised. Sinker/slider/curveball, good command, throws strikes, lots of movement on that sinker. Pretty tough to square up. Just tuned in to see Maese (pronounced "my essay" apparently) dominate in the top of the third. Power, power sinker looks like too much for these short-season hitters. Maese just struckout the side. Looks reeeallly good. Sinker 91-94 T95 with late movement. 85-87 hard, tight slider with depth that he's throwing for strikes. He threw one curveball in the last inning. Rob Fai said, Maese told him he'll mix in 3 or 4 four seam fastballs per game but i havent seen one yet. Biggio doesn't swing and miss, ever. Gruber would love him. Pretty advanced approach and plate discipline. Lizardo has made 5 or 6 impressive plays at 3rd. He's got a cannon of an arm. Yeah, Lizardo's barehanded play to end the 4th was a great play. I thought he was projected as more of a 1B type but he looks like he can maybe stick at third. Lizardo D is good. Here at DSL he was Adrian Beltre level Maese 3 up, 3 down (2 groundouts and a K) in the top of the 7th. No one up in Vancouvers bullpen.. Maese gives up a single and a home run in the top of the 8th. Fatigue looks like it started to set in a bit - he came out of the game in the 1st inning in his last start so hasn't really had an outing in 10 or so days. Lizardo makes 2 more good plays at 3B. http://i.imgur.com/U2xAvCR.png http://i.imgur.com/0p3Fh2Q.png http://i.imgur.com/gQfOiDl.png http://i.imgur.com/Iqv033j.png http://i.imgur.com/ZsSnemd.png http://i.imgur.com/rwjbaYx.png http://i.imgur.com/sfn2kFB.png http://i.imgur.com/PbwXCzY.png http://i.imgur.com/fRHzU1h.png http://i.imgur.com/PkNO3GW.png http://i.imgur.com/ZdEvQvP.png Kings 3 Stars of the Night 1) Justin Maese: Maese pitched great on Saturday night, going 8 strong innings only giving up 2 hard hit balls (single and a home run in the 8th). He took a perfect game into the 5th inning before a groundball single broke it up. Final Line... 8IP 3H 2ER 0BB 5K 15GO - 3FO. 2) Richard Urena: Urena went 5/5 with a double. AA soon? 3) T.J. Zeuch: Zeuch made his professional debut in the GCL on Saturday, and did not disappoint. He pitched 3 innings giving up 0 hits, 2 strikeouts and 7-0 groundout to flyout ratio. Kings Platinum Arencibia 1) Brad Allen: Allen gave up 2 home runs, 4 runs (2 earned) 3 walks over 3 innings. He got rocked.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2016 Author Posted July 10, 2016 In the time that I've followed the Jays system, I've never seen them start a player in Dunedin right out of the draft. Kirby "LOOGY" Snead has now done it, though.
