MY SECOND GDT. MY RECORD IS 0-1, but that one loss was the Odor-Bautista brawl so that's got to be worth something. But with Machado and Bautista both off the field, I don't think we'll be getting any benches clearing. Maybe Stroman will take a shot at Davis and we can see if HDMH really matters.

If you have someone who is batting .199 do you not want to put him in the 8th or 9th spot? I guess we have to suffer through 3 or 4 weeks of incredibly bad at bats so that we can watch Tulo maybe get his stroke back. Oh what a joy!

This is sarcasm, right? Tulo was terrible in the leadoff spot....terrible. So terrible that even Gibby (the slowest human being on this side of the planet) recognized it.

That isn't the way I remember it. Some people on this forum thought that he should stay there. Do you have stats indicating that he did poorly in the leadoff position.

He has been so bad. Saunders is going to get a lot of walks,

 

Tulo should bat ninth, until such time that he learns to hit the baseball again.

Do not have the stats for Tulo hitting leadoff last year but do have his stats for last year. He hit .239 and had a poor OBP of .317 - neither numbers good for a leadoff hitter....well...any hitter. My memory seems to tell me that he did warm up a bit outside of the leadoff spot....so his numbers in the leadoff position were worse.

 

The dude has simply not hit the ball well while with the Jays. I could care two f@#ks what he has done in the past....that does not help the Jays now. Not sure why everyone treats this guy like he is some sort of star....he has hit like a bum since arriving. When Barney took over from Tulo ..well, let's just say I enjoyed watching the Jays a bit more. When I watch Barney at the plate I understand what he is trying to do and like the fact that he actually produces from time to time....when I watch Tulo at the plate I see a player struggling big time...he looks lost out there.

Reality is he actually batted the best for us in the 6th spot for us last year,

Oddly enough right where he is today!

I desperately want him to go back to being the player he was, but I have real concerns given his history of injuries and his apparent inability to pick up on certain pitches.

I'd agree that his offensive performance so far this year has been ugly, but was he really 1.4 WAR last year in his short time with the Jays? And this is including when he missed September after his collision with Pillar?

Being worth a win and half over a quarter of one season seems like a pretty productive player, though, even if he wasn't at his peak.

Fair enough. Look don't get me wrong, I'm not on some sort of anti-Tulo crusade here. I like him as a player and I am still hopeful he can approach being the player he was for a decade with Colorado, but I haven't seen it yet.

 

And as stupid as this sounds, it didn't feel like our batting got sorted out until he came out of the lineup and I hate myself for even saying/thinking that.

Right, I forgot he is star! So what he has never even approached hitting .250 with the Jays and has only regressed. I think you are right...what he has done in the past ...especially little league matters more than what he is ACTUALLY done for the Jays. Let's get some more players who have these great reputations for playing well in the past but suck right now so we can talk them up on a forum while the Jays lose. Yes, that sounds like a plan.

I do agree that Japanese baseball is pretty watered down, if it was so great the MLB would have more than a couple Japanese players actually stick and not just be a flash in the pan for 2 or 3 seasons and then vanish. Japanese baseball is about as good as AAA in my opinion.
