The Bisons evened up their three-game series with the Durham Bulls on Tuesday. A grand slam by Matt Dominguez in the sixth inning broke a tie game, giving the Herd a 5-1 lead that held for the remainder of the game. Dominguez drove in all five runs for Buffalo. The Herd now improves to 34-31 on the season, as they look to move back up the IL North standings.

Bisons' starter Wade LeBlanc pitched 8.0 innings, allowing just one earned run, while striking out a season-high 11 batters. He improves to 7-2 on the season, and lowers his already IL-best ERA to 1.51.

"Wade LeBlanc was the difference in the game once again," Bisons' manager Gary Allenson said postgame. "If you watch him from the side it's not that impressive, but if you have a bat in your hand, it's tough to tell what he throws."

Dominguez gave the Herd a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as his sac-fly platted Dalton Pompey for the first run of the ballgame. Durham's starter Justin Marks limited the Herd to just three hits through the first five innings. He ran into trouble in the sixth inning, allowing the Dominguez grand slam.

"I just got some good pitches to hit," Dominguez said postgame. "I just stayed on the fastball, and was able to get it in the air and get it out of the park."

"That four-run homer felt like an eight-run homer to me," Allenson said of Dominguez's grand slam.

The Bulls tied the score at 1 in the top of the third, as Daniel Robertson grounded into a force out with runners on first and second. On the play, a throwing error by Bisons' shortstop Jio Mier scored Jake Hager, resulting in an unearned run for LeBlanc. Durham totaled just two more hits after the third inning.

Through six frames, LeBlanc tied his season high of nine strikeouts, recording three in the sixth inning alone. He racked up another three punch outs, becoming the first Bisons' hurler to reach double-digit strikeouts this year.

"It's not velocity," LeBlanc said when asked for the reason for his string of strikeouts. Over his last 15.0 innings, he has strung together 20 strikeouts. "It's just kind of reading their swings, understanding what they're looking for and going off of that." "He works quick, throws a lot of strikes, and gets a lot of groundballs. As a defender, it's pretty much the best you can play behind," Dominguez said of LeBlanc.

Neil Wagner relieved Justin Marks for the bottom of the seventh, stranding runners on the corners. Danny Farquhar also pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Bulls.

For the bottom of the ninth, Bo Schultz replaced LeBlanc. A diving catch by David Adams at second secured the first out, and the righty struck out Jake Goebbert to end the game.

Roberto Hernandez will start for the Herd on Wednesday for the series finale against the Bulls. Eddie Gamboa is set to take the mound for Durham, in what will be the last time these two clubs face each other in the regular season. First pitch from Coca-Cola Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

BISONS NOTES:

Pat Venditte was activated to the Bisons on Tuesday, after being sent down by the Blue Jays on Monday. Lefty reliever Patrick McCoy has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to June 12… Wade LeBlanc has yet to allow more than three earned runs in a start. LeBlanc's 11 strikeouts are the most by a Bisons' starter since Daniel Norris in a game on August 15, 2014… Matt Dominguez's grand slam is the first bases-clearing bomb by a Bison since Ty Kelly last August 11, which came in a game against the Rochester Red Wings… David Adams extended his hitting streak to seven games, with a single to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning.

ALTOONA, PA - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats began their longest road trip of the season in inauspicious fashion Tuesday night, getting rocked 11-3 by the Altoona Curve at Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona.

The Fisher Cats (28-35) surrendered season-high marks in runs (11) and hits (16), only scoring in one inning of the game. By contrast, Altoona (34-29) scored in six of the last seven innings, and put up three multi-run innings. Dwight Smith, Jr. collected an RBI single to extend his season-best hitting streak to 11 games.

The Curve drew first blood in the bottom of the second against Fisher Cats starting pitcher Casey Lawrence (L, 2-5). With two outs, Eric Wood hammered a fastball over the center field fence for his sixth homer of the season, putting Altoona up 1-0. Altoona doubled that lead in the bottom of the fourth, as Wood came through again with an RBI single to score Jose Osuna and make it a 2-0 lead for the Curve.

New Hampshire surged ahead in the top of the fifth inning against Altoona starter Tyler Eppler. Melky Mesa led off with a double, and scored on an RBI single from Ian Parmley, who sped to second on an error by right fielder Stetson Allie. With two outs, first baseman Jose Osuna booted a grounder from Roemon Fields, allowing Parmley to score and Fields to reach second. Jason Leblebijian drew a walk, and Smith cracked an RBI single to plate Fields and put New Hampshire in front 3-2.

Altoona answered in the bottom of the fifth. Chris Diaz led off with a double, and Harold Ramirez knocked his own two-bagger to score Diaz and tie the score. Erich Weiss then singled Ramirez to third, and Austin Meadows brought Ramirez in on a 5-3 RBI groundout. Reese McGuire banged a two-out double to extend the lead to 5-3 for Altoona. In the sixth, Stetson Allie bashed a leadoff homer off Brady Dragmire, making it 6-3.

The Curve piled on the runs in the seventh and eighth, as they added two off Dragmire in the seventh on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single, and three more off John Stilson in the eighth, on an RBI single, a ground-out, and another RBI single to provide the final margin of 11-3.

Lawrence took the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings while whiffing two. Dragmire surrendered three runs on four hits and a walk in two innings; he struck out one. Stinson gave up three runs (one earned) on two hits in one inning of action. Danny Barnes got one out to end the eighth inning.

The Fisher Cats will try to bounce back Wednesday evening, with righty Jason Berken starting for New Hampshire against Altoona righty Alex McRae. First pitch is at 7 p.m., and Ben Gellman has the call starting at 6:45 p.m. on the Fisher Cats Radio Network.

The Fisher Cats are hosting Franco-American Heritage Day with the Franco-American Centre of New Hampshire on June 26, with Poutine-Fest! All fans at the game will be able to purchase poutine from concession areas within Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. LANSING, Mich. - For the third time in 2016, the Lansing Lugnuts put together a four-game winning streak. And for the third time in 2016, the winning streak ended at four games.

Cristian Gomez slugged a two-run double and a three-run double, and the Great Lakes Loons (27-37) handed the Lugnuts (33-31) an 11-4 defeat on Tuesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Lansing grabbed a quick 3-0 lead in the second inning, and all seemed well with All-Star left-hander Angel Perdomo cruising through three innings with five strikeouts.

But Gomez's two-run double capped a game-tying three-run fourth-inning rally, and Jake Henson knocked a three-run homer in a four-run fifth, giving the Loons a sudden 7-3 lead.

Perdomo entered the game with a Minor League-leading .150 opposition batting average, but allowed seven hits and six runs in 4 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out seven.

Great Lakes put the game away against relievers Nate Abel and Josh DeGraaf with a four-run seventh inning, climaxed by Gomez's bases-clearing double off DeGraaf.

After their early offense, Lansing's only subsequent highlight arrived in the bottom of the seventh inning - designated hitter Connor Panas's fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to deepest left-center. It was Panas's second straight game with a home run.

Despite allowing Panas's home run, Loons reliever Adam Bray pitched the final three innings to record his second save of the year.

Wednesday will see the two clubs play their second doubleheader in three days. The Lugnuts are scheduled to start right-hander Patrick Murphy (0-0, 3.18) and left-hander Ryan Borucki (2-3, 4.13), opposed by Loons right-hander Isaac Anderson (4-2, 4.34) and a pitcher yet to be announced. It's a Winning Wednesday at Cooley Law School Stadium - if the Lugnuts win either of the two games, fans in attendance will receive tickets to a future Nuts game this season!

(This is the most "DSL" game I have ever seen - Jays team made 6 errors and walked 13 times, Jays tied it in the 9th but gave up 1 in the top of the 10th, then tied it in the bottom of the 10th, then gave up 3 in the top of the 12th before starting another rally that fell short in the bottom of the 12th. The game took 5 and a half hours. WTF?)

2) Matt Dominguez: Dominguez went 2/3 with a Grand Slam!

3) Yorman Rodriguez: The young DSL catcher who got some Jays prospect list hype on BJMB this past offseason went 2/4 with 3 walks at the plate, and caught all 12 innings of a wild, long game.

Kings Platinum Arencibia

1) MC Gregory Contreras: The aspiring hip hop artist and major league baseball player went 0/6 with 4 strikeouts.

mel-didier.jpgRan into Mel Didier, Jays senior advisor, at the Bison's game tonight....could talk to him for hours...such a wealth of baseball knowledge. He mentioned that he was off to Lansing to evaluate Pentecost specifically, who he said should start catching in a couple of weeks. He also intimated that SRF or Harris would possibly be moved to Dunedin in July...maybe both.

Yuck, I guess he's K'ing kiddies in triple A tho.

He's a LHP, but yeah. There's a reason he's pitched 700+ innings in AAA since 2008. Decent depth SP is fine though if the need arises.
