It's hard to envision a way in which we win this game.

We lost this game when it hit the top of the 7th..

So much wrong with this I don't know where to start.

He'd be good at 16 over 2 years.

I don't think I give Dickey 2 years. I'd give him 1 at 8, but I really, really hope they have a better option by 2018.

1 and a team option will work.

Sorry, but I don't see anyway the Jays are contenders during the next few years, unless the budget is increased. They simply do not have enough cost controlled young players and a currently barren farm system.

Just because the Cubs tanked for 5 seasons and became good doesn't mean it would work for us.

Ortiz going the other way against the shift to score two runs in his first AB.

But Ortiz never sacrifices power to beat the shift to score runs, right guys?

At least there are no longer any misconceptions about the Blue Jays being the dominant team in the AL East. I think if they can go 6 - 5 in the next 11 games they will be doing very well and will be within striking distance of one of the wild card spots.

Once they get Devon Travis back and if he hits well, and Martin starts hitting well then maybe they can get a few games over .500 by the All Star break. Then if Edwin, Donaldson and Bautista have a good last 2 months of the season the Blue Jays might get into the playoffs from a wild card spot. (Unfortunately they might be fighting the Yankees, Orioles, Red Sox or Rays for those two wild card spots)

There are a lot of if's and things don't really look good right now, but who knows ... It's not over until it's over.

Of course. But what's the alternative? Do you think the Jays have a chance in 2017 or 2018 to be WS contender? Chance is quite low, IMO. And then JD is a free agent and likely gone. If this team does not turn it around in the next few weeks, best to move assets for prospects.

Cost controlled youth is the foundation of a winning team in today's MLB.

Nobody said that. I believe people told you that he doesn't go the other way more often than Edwin, or whoever it was you were saying should be more like Ortiz.

Trade Bautista, Edwin, Dickey, Storen, Cecil, Chavez, Saunders, Smoak for prospects at the trade deadline, sign Brandon Moss and Josh Reddick in the offseason. Hope Tulo and Martin bounce back.

This team is getting -1 to 1 extrapolated to full season WAR out of several spots on the diamond. That won't continue nor is it likely occur moving forward. With a decent rotation locked up through next season, the reigning MVP in the fold and a healthy payroll there is not reason to gut the team and labor through 5 miserable seasons. I definitely think we could field a competitive team next season.

This isn't basketball where you tank for top picks nor is it football where you do the same to get a top QB. Player development will always be key over having top picks.

Now if we are still not looking good for a WC spot come July, then sure let's make some trades - particularly pending FA's who we are unlikely to resign. But I just don't think we need to blow the whole team up and rebuild Cubs style.

The idea that the Cubs are where they are because they sucked forever is erroneous. They're where they are because they have fantastic management and make great decisions. Look how their key players were acquired:

Fowler - acquired via trade for Valbuena and Straily

Russell - acquired via trade for Samardzija

Rizzo - acquired via trade for Cashner

Arrieta - acquired via trade for Feldman

Hendricks - acquired via trade for Dempster

Rondon - claimed off waivers

Heyward - signed

Zobrist - signed

Lackey - signed

Lester - signed

Hammel - signed

Really it's just Bryant that required a top pick, but overall the team was built meticulously with shrewd trades and smart signings.
