KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 two bags of testosterone pushing at each other in a heated exchange... you ALWAYS have to watch the other guys hands. If he curls his fists you hit him because that's what he's about to do to you. Jose was chesting up and thought he was going to scare Odor. I guess he hasn't seen the video replays of Odor's Ty Cobb impressions. I don't think Bautista's very street smart. He grew up very comfortably. I doubt he's been in many fights. That's not a knock. I certainly haven't been in many fights either.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 If Bautista doesn't say anything to the media after the game, he probably doesn't get any suspension. No big deal though, I'm not upset about 1 game. Odor should have gotten more, but likely the fact Jose wasn't really hurt played into it. Yeah 1 game is nothing. Not different from a scheduled day off.

When in a fight, you always let the other swing first, deflect, then counterattack with their momentum moving towards you. Bautista didn't have a clue, obv.
crazy47larry Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 posted in the other suspension thread but relevant here aswell... all the suspensions suck. jose has done his 2nd dirty slide in this young season and he only gets 1 game? rougned odor f***ing punched a guy and only gets 8 games? who is in charge of this stuff? i bet if chase utley did that tackle slide now he'd only get like 3 games. these suspensions are basically meaningless.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 jose has done his 2nd dirty slide It wasn't even close to a suspension worthy slide. The league acknowledge as much with their vague justification for Bautista's suspension.

I certainly haven't been in many fights either. as long as the guy doesn't close his fists he's not really going to hurt you. A slap may sting but it's not going to do much damage unless he's a professional slapper. lol yes, it's a sport. most guys know that a curled hand is right before the guy swings if the person can hit at all. guys who are really scared will hold their fists curled tight all the time which is not a good idea. once Odor rocked Jose with two straight arms in the chest he should have at least been on the defensive. put up your guard and defend yourself at all times. If you can at least get your arms in the way the guy will never get a clean shot off to your head. Jose looked very dazed when he got clocked. Not sure if it was purely a surprise or if he was truly rocked. I think it's the later. his neck got snapped pretty hard. We don't know if he was wobbly because Beltre held him up for 5 minutes.

JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I'm honestly confused about how many people are like "he should have known it was coming." Really? Does anyone ever actually expect a baseball fight to escalate to that level? Maybe I'm naive here, but I was pretty f***ing shocked when I saw him get hit like that. yep, you're naive
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Author Posted May 18, 2016 yep, you're naive So you weren't surprised with the punch?

catchercharlie2 Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 well said . especially the last sentence
catchercharlie2 Verified Member Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I understand why Bautista was surprised. The punch was out of line and something you don't see often in baseball unless someone is charging the mound. I wish he would have been more ready because Odor has a history. I put my money on him over Odor in the octagon. I do think Bautista wont change the way he is and will be more ready in the future to not become a favourite meme for anyone who doesn't like him around baseball. He is an arrogant and proud guy who is going to have to back up his tough guy routine better. Well said. Especially the last sentence

Yes, it's a new rule, but the wording of said rule does not consider the possibility of suspension for violation. The penalty for violating the slide rule is 2 outs. Unless they plan on changing the rule, suspending Bautista for that slide (no matter his post game comments) doesn't make sense. Even if they did change the rule, it would be an ex post facto change, which would be difficult to punish Bautista for.

These were always the bigger guys around, yelling at people thinking they would never get looked up. It only takes one and you have always got to be ready. I have never gotten in someone's face and not been ready to throw or avoid. JoeyBats got bit by the more aggressive dig in the yard.
