Offense was in short supply Sunday afternoon as the Tides secured a 2-1 win against the Bisons in Norfolk. Despite no strikeouts from any Bisons' batters, Norfolk pitching kept the Herd out of the run column for the majority of the game. Lefty T.J. McFarland pitched seven and 2/3 innings, allowing just one run, in his second Triple-A start of the season. Pedro Beato recorded a perfect ninth inning for his second save of 2016.

Junior Lake took McFarland deep in the top of the second, sending one over the right center field wall, for his third home run of the year. The Bisons' lead didn't last long, as Norfolk took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second as a result of a throwing error by Bisons' starter Drew Hutchison. With the bases loaded, Sharlon Schoop chopped a ball back to mound, but Hutchison's throw to the plate was offline, getting away from catcher A.J. Jimenez.

Hutchison's two runs were unearned, lowering his seasonal ERA to 3.05. The Bisons' starter struck out eight Tides over six quality innings, allowing five hits and one walk.

T.J. McFarland was the beneficiary of three double plays, as the Bisons failed to give Hutchison any more offensive support after the Junior Lake homer. Lake also picked up a double in the fifth inning, his first two-bagger since April 26. McFarland's seven and 2/3 innings is the longest outing for a Norfolk start this season.

Ryan Tepera returned to the Herd after a stint with the Blue Jays. In his first appearance since April 24, he picked off L.J. Hoes at first to end the seventh inning, and pitched a one-two-three eighth inning.

A pair of defensive highlights kept the Bisons from rallying in the eighth. Alexi Casilla shot a ball up the middle, which was corralled by a diving Corban Joseph at second, who threw to first for the out. The next batter, Darrell Ceciliani, was robbed of a hit when first baseman Trey Mancini leaped to make the catch.

The Herd heads home to begin a seven game home stand. Scott Diamond will take the mound on Monday against the Mud Hens, opposed by former Bison Daniel Norris. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. from Coca-Cola Field.

BISONS NOTES:

Dustin Antolin was called-up to the Blue Jays before Sunday's game, as Toronto placed Brett Cecil on the 15-day disabled list. Antolin has saved three games for the Bisons this year in 12 appearances, and looks to make his Major League debut with the Jays… Drew Hutchison is now winless in his 15 career starts for the Bisons, with his only victory of 2016 coming in his lone start for the Blue Jays on April 24... David Adams returned to the Bisons' lineup for the first time since May 8. He went 0-3 to snap a 10-game hitting streak.

NORWICH, CT - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats completed a four-game sweep of the Hartford Yard Goats and earned their seventh consecutive win, nabbing a 4-2 victory Sunday at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium in Norwich.

New Hampshire (18-17) moved above .500 for the first time since April 15, when they were 4-3. The sweep was the first four-game road sweep the Fisher Cats have recorded since they took four straight from the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium between June 30 and July 3 of 2009. The Yard Goats (23-13) tumbled out of first place in the Eastern League's Eastern Division, falling behind the Reading Fightin Phils. The series was played at Dodd Stadium while construction continues on Dunkin Donuts Park in Hartford.

The Fisher Cats drew first blood in the top of the fifth against Hartford starting pitcher Harrison Musgrave (L, 5-1). The lefty hit Christian Lopes with a pitch to lead off the inning, and Ian Parmley sacrificed Lopes to second. With two outs, Roemon Fields sliced a single to center, scoring Lopes and putting New Hampshire ahead 1-0.

Hartford struck back in the bottom of the fifth against New Hampshire starter Jeremy Gabryszwski (W, 2-1), who hit Dillon Thomas with a pitch with one out. Jan Vazquez lashed a double to left field, scoring Thomas to tie the game. With two outs, Raimel Tapia cracked a single to the outfield to plate Vazquez, giving Hartford the 2-1 edge.

New Hampshire retook the lead in the top of the sixth. Wilson Castillo hammered a double to left field with two outs, and Christian Lopes followed suit with his own two-bagger. Ian Parmley then cracked a single to left field, and Lopes raced around third to score, making it 3-2 in favor of New Hampshire. The Fisher Cats added one more run in the top of the ninth, with Parmley scoring on a sacrifice fly by Fields, and Chris Smith was able to preserve the lead in the ninth to secure the win.

Gabryszwski delivered six strong innings, surrendering two runs on four hits and a walk while fanning six. Daniel Schlereth tossed a scoreless frame of relief, allowing one hit. Jason Bergen fired a perfect inning with one strikeout. Chris Smith (S, 1) allowed a hit and two walks in the ninth, but held Hartford scoreless to earn his first save.

New Hampshire will look to keep the good times rolling Monday against the Portland Sea Dogs, with southpaw Shane Dawson drawing the start for New Hampshire against Portland righty Aaron Wilkerson. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m., and Ben Gellman's pregame show starts at 5:45 on the Fisher Cats Radio Network.

DUNEDIN, FL - RHP Conner Greene allowed two runs over 5.2 innings in the Dunedin Blue Jays (15-22) loss to the Brevard County Manatees (13-24) on Sunday afternoon. The Manatees used a three-run seventh innings to take a 5-3 lead, eventually winning the game 5-4.

The seventh inning for the Manatees began with a bunt single by RF Omar Garcia with the Jays up 3-2. After he stole second base, Garcia moved to third on LF Brando Diaz's single. Once the ball rolled into left field, Diaz found himself in a pickle between first and second, allowing Garcia to bolt for home and score the tying run. Diaz moved up to second on the play, and he would come around to score when CF Johnny Davis put down a sac bunt. LHP Alonzo Gonzalez (L, 1-2) fielded the bunt and threw the ball wide of first. All three runs in the seventh were changed to Gonzalez.

The Jays held a 3-0 lead in the game after they plated a trio of runs in the fourth inning off RHP Kender Villegas (W, 2-4). C Mike Reeves contributed with an RBI-single in the frame, and the inning ended on a wild RBI-sac fly by the rehabbing 2B Devon Travis. DH Emilio Guerrero scored when Travis lifted a ball in foul territory to the tarp. 3B Jose Cuas made the play but fell down in the process, allowing Guerrero to tag. Reeves was at first and tagged to second on the play. Seeing there was no one to cover third, Reeves bolted for the bag but was tagged out on a bang-bang play to end the inning. Travis finished his second rehab start 1-for-3 with the RBI.

Dunedin was shut down following the fourth and didn't find a baserunner until their lone run in the ninth inning. Guerrero doubled in a run with two outs, but LHP Clint Terry (S, 1) got Reeves to ground out to first to end the game.

Dunedin sets their sights on Fort Myers for the first time in 2016 with a four game series at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. The first game is Monday night at 6:30 pm with RHP Brad Allen on the hill. Fort Myers will send out RHP Kohl Stewart.

LANSING, Mich. - Justin Atkinson singled in Lane Thomas to break a seventh-inning tie, and the Lansing Lugnuts (18-16) gained a series split with the South Bend Cubs (21-14) with a 7-6 win on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.

The game featured a rollercoaster of runs, with the Lugnuts grabbing an early 4-0 lead, falling behind 6-4, and then rallying for the win.

Facing reliever Kyle Miller (Loss, 0-1) to open the bottom of the seventh, Thomas sizzled a grounder off of third base and into left field for a leadoff double. Josh Almonte sacrificed his teammate to third, and Atkinson followed with a line drive into left field to cleanly bring him in for the lead. The rally ended South Bend's bullpen's scoreless streak at 23 2/3 consecutive innings.

Dan Lietz (Win, 2-0) pitched 2 2/2 scoreless innings in relief of Lugnuts starter Dan Lietz to record the victory, yielding to Josh DeGraaf (Save, 2) for the final six outs.

Designated hitter Max Pentecost wrapped up a strong return to professional baseball, going 2-for-4 with two sharp singles, a walk and an RBI. Pentecost finished the four-game series with eight hits in 16 at-bats.

Did Mitch Nay die?

Yes.

Danny Jansen died again too. hasn't played since May 2nd. Not good for a guy like him with an extensive injury history.
