WTF? Did Shatkins say they only think Edwin will get 2 years on the open market? I never heard that.

 

Regardless, the answer would be - Adrian Beltre just signed for 2 years $36M and he's way better than EE. Papi only signs 1 year deals and he's as good as EE.

Why would Toronto be inclined to offer him what he could get on the open market? They can do that after the season. That's the worst case Ontario.

 

Negotiating extensions with players is all about trying to get a team friendly deal. There's not really much sense in offering free agent term / money before they even reach free agency, unless you're dealing with a generational talent and you can't even justify the risk of letting them experience free agency.

Probably because its one of the greatest small baseball towns in Canada. You'll be able to watch the Australian Junior Fastball team play there later this summer as well. Its like 15 minutes from the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. And a whole bunch of other reason's you don't care about.
