burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Do you think prior management rushed Pompey because of the 'Canadian Star' marketing opportunity? don't think it had anything to do with that. There just weren't any better alternatives at the time (on the roster) which AA should have blame for.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 If nothing else, perhaps Pompey's presence also makes Pillar (think about? focus on? appreciate) his situation a bit more and helps to get his (offensive) act in gear. Pillar being cemented into a full-time role still isn't super comfortable me, despite his awesome defense. Do you think Pillar isn't trying hard enough? Because that narrative sounds like a load of BS. If anything he is probably pressing too much,

But, corporate types push for weird things sometimes though, which is why I brought it up.

Well they signed Russ Martin so they had that "angle" covered already even if you believe in that. I don't think anyone cares if there are Canadians on the roster. Russ Martin doesn't seem to get any extra love since he's Canadian. He flies under the radar even.

Pillar is a warrior, and he is what he is....A defensive wizard with a super aggressive approach at home plate. Dalton is a very different player, a guy with a good approach at home plate with and wise-gamer.
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Look at that greasy f***'s hair. It's literally dripping gunk on the back part. He's not sweating yet, it's clearly product, why do the umps let this s*** happen?

Canadians jump on the bandwagon of anything Canadian.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 lol do you live in Canada? Canadians jump on the bandwagon of anything Canadian. You think Martin is more popular than Donaldson, Bautista or Stroman?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Good approaches so far. Bucholz cutter looks good.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 You think Martin is more popular than Donaldson, Bautista or Stroman? No way. But they get more recognition than someone at level, that's for sure. But of course the superstars of the team get more recognition
Hal Johnson Verified Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 You think Martin is more popular than Donaldson, Bautista or Stroman? No, he's not. But, even at his best, he doesn't play a flashy, star-like game. If he was more in line with the type of player that JD and JB are, you can bet they would exploit the crap out of his being Canadian.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 You think Martin is more popular than Donaldson, Bautista or Stroman? " I don't think anyone cares if there are Canadians on the roster." You didn't ask if Martin was the most popular..

I'm saying casual fans aren't going to watch the team because there is a Canadian on the roster. Fans care about the talent level not the Nationality.

Hal Johnson Verified Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Surprised Zeke didn't dive in front of Pillar for that one.
Hal Johnson Verified Member Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Hal, looks like you and I are the only ones who took sick days today Nah, I'm just a bum.
