jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Realistically, Gibbons sorta had his hands tied regarding the bullpen today. Cecil and Chavez were unavailable (back-to-back days). Osuna was questionable (young, and pitched back-to-back days earlier in the week). All Gibbons had was Biagini, Morales, Leon, Storen after Floyd. At least we know who's going to lose his spot for Estrada on Sunday.

"Storen is going to save this game in the 9th inning."
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 What the. How were Gibby's hands tied? So what if Osuna pitched two days ago? And there was nothing wrong with what Floyd was doing either. If Gibby absolutely wanted to use Leon, why not save him for a clean ninth and use Osuna for the messy 8th? And unless there was some good reason, Storen could have been used too. His hands weren't tied at all. If anything, he tied them himself by using absolutely anyone except his best RP to get salvage the situation in the 8th. Like, even a drop of creativity would have resulted in better tactics than what he went with. The whole thing was transparently Matt Williams-level old-school horseshit.

The smarter option would've been to use Leon in the 7th and go to Floyd if Arnold got in trouble. Plus, Leon had to be used sooner or later--they need to decide whether to cut Leon or send Biagini back to the Giants by Sunday. Based on Leon's performance, we know what's gonna happen.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I think we can all agree by now that Gibbons should not be allowed to make any pitching decisions.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 So now that we hear Donaldson strained his calf in Montreal. Opening the season on the s***** turfs of Montreal and Tampa certainly didn't go well. Both Donaldson and Saunders hurt their legs. And you know these injuries are turf related because...?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Sheeeeeeeit. I floated off to nappyland when we were up 3-0.
Rube Marquard Verified Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 To be fair to Gibby, I remember Storen saying part of the reason he struggled outside of the closer role was from all the warming in the bullpen. I'm sure he told this to Gibbons and he's trying to avoid it. To be fair to "Gibby"? The idiot manager is one who got the pitcher to warm up the game before and didn't use him. Bad bullpen management all round. And so we get some toad named Arnold Leon instead.
