TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I'm calling Shatkins insane or wanting Bruce - aren't the rest of you? it make no sense to me but they are in an insane position right now. They already have $84M committed to next year and have 11 going to free agency (Bats, EE, Dickey, Storen, Cecil, Chavez, Smoak, Saunders, Thole, Barney and Floyd). Even though the back end of that is inconsequential, I think they are search for bodies/options for next year.

Maybe even both.

Maybe even both. If the Jays are out of it, then I think they'll trade everyone (Bautista, Edwin, Cecil, Dickey, Storen, Chavez, etc), especially those who are not QO candidates. Like Hurl mentioned, they need to fill a lot of roster spots next season, in addition to revamping the farm system. Obviously the preferable ending would be another playoff appearance and this time a World Series title, but if they fall out of it and get to gain some long-term assets at the deadline, it wouldn't be the worst thing to happen. Keeping everyone and missing the playoffs entirely would be the worst case.

Maybe even both. I'd prefer the Jays get the most they can in talent as the return. Because when you start saying things like "to help fill next year's roster" you're limiting yourself in the return you'll get and the teams you're dealing with. A team in the playoff hunt isn't going to deal a significant MLB piece(s) for Jose or Edwin. Both have 10/5 rights and aren't gonna agree to a trade to the Brewers, A's or some other s*** team. So you put it out there they're on the block and take the best offer for one or both if the offer is well worth it above the comp picks they'd receive.

Maybe even both. what do you think qualifies as "not in it" in 2016? below .500 or 10 games back, with a s***** run differential? on July 29 (as we know), Jays were .500, 3rd in the East, and 7 games back (8 in loss column.)

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Is the leg kick the new weighted ball?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I'm not sure what we're going to make of Dominic Brown. An interview a few days ago said that he is not going to try to replicate his all-star form, because back then he was pulling and cheating on everything to take advantage of the short right field porch in CBP. So I guess we'll end up with the slap hitting, s***** version of Dominic Brown, and not the 25-HR, pull happy version? Meh, he's a minor league signing, so no expectations.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Is the leg kick the new weighted ball? Seems like it. Article says Pillar and Goins also added one.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 "Leadership is hard to define until you see it. Josh Donaldson watches Dom Brown mishit his last BP swing into the top of the batting cage. "Take another one," Donaldson tells him. Brown gets back in the box and rockets the next pitch over the Canadian flag atop the fence in right-center. "That's why you take another one," Donaldson says. "So you leave with that good taste."" -espn

If you stay through the ball and try to hit it back up the middle with authority, you will still pull plenty of balls. Actively trying to pull balls is a bad idea for pretty much anybody except Jose Bautista.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Is the leg kick the new weighted ball? Its not like just adding a leg kick will improve your swing, but players working with Tewksbary is definitely encouraging. He teaches players rhythm and about bat path which should help players hit the ball on the sweetspot more often. A leg kick is really just a timing mechanism in a way.

And timing can help a player tremendously.
