Laika Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 The shift killed him. Did teams just start shifting on him in 2014? Lawrie is 26 and still suxx. Lawrie has less IQ points than your goat

ColdPint Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 This seems like the kind of move that an analytically adept FO would stay far away from. Doesn't make much sense in my opinion.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Fangraphs' profile on him kind of mirrors your thoughts and explains it pretty well. I should write those things. I wonder if they're hiring.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Well that is kind of rude. A lot of things are obvious but aren't true. a) 2016=(2*2015+2014)/3 2016=(2015+2014+2*career averages)/4 c) 2016=career averages*aging factor For a 29 year old, in good health, Which of the 3 projection systems has the lowest error in your opinion? I would say for a 29 year old in good health it is c). However maybe Bruce isn't healthy. Holy f*** just stop
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Contact rate surged. I feel like 2015 Jay Bruce was maybe basically the same dude as 2008-2013 Jay Bruce, just with worse luck and worse defense.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Can we throw in a little bit more and fulfill my wet dream by getting this handsome devil here instead? http://mediadownloads.mlb.com/mlbam/2014/11/02/images/mlbf_36888875_th_45.jpg Still not as handsome as... http://seattlesportscentral.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/saunders.jpg

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 JJ Cooper As @dougdirt24 points out, Blue Jays part of this could make deal a lot better for the Reds. Toronto has some high upside prospects.

You could say he was lucky in 2010 and 2013. 2012 is his most realistic upside in a rebound year. 2.5 WAR. I guess there's some value of adding Bruce to this righty heavy lineup.

closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 This is kind of mind boggling if true... even if the Reds ate virtually all of his salary, he still isnt worth a healthy saunders and if saunders isnt healthy, then he doesnt pass his physical and the trade doesnt happen.
flafson Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 F that. Could someone please explain to me why Saunders for Bruce make any sense? They are both hit or miss, one makes 10M more than the other, are we getting 10M back from the Reds?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Come on Shapiro/Atkins, don't trade prospects for Jay frickin Bruce.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Come on Shapiro/Atkins, don't trade prospects for Jay frickin Bruce. It would be pretty two-faced for him to rip on AA for trading prospects for good players in a playoff push, then turn around and acquire a player who might have negative value for some. With that said, I think if we were willing to give up a decent prospect the deal would already be done. We wouldn't be trying to do a 3-way.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 I'm having a Jay Bruce party right now at my place!! This is exciting!!!
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Yeah but one can actually play baseball. Yeah the handsomeness per game is off the chart but the counting stats just won't be there in the end.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I'd rather just go with the better talent and have Pompey as insurance. I don't get it. Where is Pompey going?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Jays front office (Bruce trade)
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 If Prospect are involved here there better be more pieces and a lot of cash thrown in.

Toronto has some high upside prospects. This tweet makes me want to hurt someone. If anything we should be receiving a prospect. Bruce was worth -0.9 and 0.1 WAR the past two seasons and is owed 12.5M this season LOL.

Assuming no prospects of any value are going to Cinci, there is definitely a price at which its defensible to pay a bit more for Bruce. The team might prefer him for a variety of reasons: doubts about Saunders' health, doubts about Saunder's ability to perform if he's playing, a belief that Bruce has something left in the tank etc...
