Spoonovic Verified Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 This deserves its own thread. Bautista pretty much called out Rogers in a while no one in the media has. I dont want this quote being lost in the thread having to do with Bautista's quotes on his contract negotiations. Shout out to NJH for the screen shot and the original post. Really impressed by Jose after reading this comment! Holy f*** Jose Bautista the accountant pulls Rogers' pants down so everyone can see the sneaky hidden money in their tightey whiteys. Toronto Blue Jays Jose Bautista's days are numbered
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I don't think any player should talk financial...ever. No matter what he thinks the Media division (Sportsnet and the Jays) is still a fifth of the revenue and 1/25th of the profits in comparison to Wireless and Cable. The Jays impact on those two might be some amount through the free advertising but overall he's speaking about s*** that he shouldn't be.

Think this is more strategic on Bautista's part than anything - feeds to the fans of "Rogers is cheap" argument. I am sure he is trying to maximize his value with the Jays. Even if not, this is Bautista. He'll bat flip what you think to yo face!

For what its worth I don't think it would have been smart to invest in Bautista for reasons already addressed many times in this forum and doubt the team would have committed. If they were, it would have been done by now from the sounds of his comments.

They might not have enough money to meet demands now but might be able to throw their hat in the free agent ring down the road.

I admit I started a topic with Hurl that has too many "if" and speculations and the team could just be waiting for everything else to play out. Right now the parameters include filling in two bullpen spots (Cecil and Storen likely gone), potentially 2 OF positions (Saunders/Bruce future in question and Bau) and potentially the rotation as well (Chaven & Dickey could be gone, Hutch could falter, Sanchez proves he belongs in the pen, etc.). There are too many question marks for this team heading into next season that must be addressed before investing in a luxury like Jose. That doesn't mean they can't, just other things have higher priority.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 There's that and also that the payroll could move a lot between now and then depending on how successful the team is this year. And depending on the continual descent of the Cdn $.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 And depending on the continual descent of the Cdn $. whatcha talking bout willis, dat dollar is up nearly 5 cents from its low dis year, 73 cents OMG yay!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 And depending on the continual descent of the Cdn $. Its actually gone up the last month or so. 1 USD used to be around 1.45 CAD now its around 1.37. I think the impact is a lot less than people lead on anyways. The Jays get around $100 Million USD in revenue sharing each year so its not like you take the payroll in USD and multiply it by the exchange rate to get the cost to the org.
