Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I have mixed feelings. It would be nice to see Stroman get the home opener but in the case where you have been blessed with an early day off I don't think i would want to shorten my rotation the first week. Give the guys a day off and get everyone that made to rotation in there early. If you don't want to start Chavez or Hutch put Estrada in the 5th spot. If your in it in September you are going to have to shorten your Rotation any ways there is not need not to give pitchers extra days off early in the year.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Probably goes: Stroman Estrada Dickey Happ Stroman Estrada Dickey Happ Chavez Sanchez and Hutch in AAA. Floyd in pen. I like this, only I wouldn't start Stro in the home opener. With a heavy workload expected from everyone and only Dickey being counted on for 200+ IP, I would take every opportunity to give everyone else an extra day of rest.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 So apparently Dickey had a torn Meniscus last year??
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 ITT: people that don't realize pitchers are human beings. Stroman should get the extra day rest. He'll pitch game 2 at home.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 What I like about this conversation is that we seem to be leaning towards keeping a 5-man rotation despite the day off. The past three years everyone would be begging to skip the fifth starter, because the fifth starter was awful. This year the fifth starter will be the best of Chavez, Hutchison or Sanchez, and we can live with that. This rotation is not going to win the team a lot of games, but I'm optimistic it won't lose the team a lot either. Our main concern for the year is if Dickey will be a gas can for half of the season.

Dickey will be Dickey. 200 innings of mediocrity. The bigger worry is an Estrada regression and how significant it will be.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Mediocre means "of only moderate quality." Major League starters produced 2.43 WAR / 200 innings last year. Mediocrity is an apt word and there's nothing wrong with that. Bulk mediocrity can be valuable. lol, transparent
