Saw Eddie today at the complex. What was more interesting, however, was Sanchez pitching to some Yankee scrubs on another diamond. His line for today...6 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 BB and 6 K's. Hope to see him next Tuesday against the Rays.

 

Thanks for that report. Were any Yankee regulars playing? I love how Sanch continues to pile up the K's while keeping that BB rate low. I think his new line is now:

 

26 IP, 25 K, 3 BB, and 3 runs.

Yeah I think it'd be naive to say his command hasn't improved a great deal. I mean last year he walked 10 guys in around 10 Innings in ST and he's always walked a ton of guys in the minors as a starter. For him to only walk 3 guys in 26 Innings is ridiculous.

No Yankee regulars that I recognized...I think they were all minor leaguers. It's really great at the complex where you can watch a pitcher like Sanchez directly behind home plate, basically leaning on the backstop or go behind the first row and check the velocity on the gun.

If anyone that really knows the organization who comes down for spring training and doesn't come to the minor league complex is missing a great up close experience. I actually was able to listen in on Eddie's interview with Gregor Chisholm and take a pic with EE afterwards. It's such a relaxed atmosphere and even better,it's free. I'll be back for their last session tomorrow before they break camp, then catch the opening series at the Trop.

By any chance, do you remember if Sanchez got any swinging strikeouts/strikes, and how the movement/command/effectiveness of his off-speed pitches (curve and change) looked? And do you remember if he threw any effective cutters?

While striking people out, so it's not like his last couple starts in 2015, where he was only throwing the 2SMr right down the middle and letting his movement keep it away from the heart of the plate to try induce soft contact. This spring, he's actually showing control of 4 pitches (4SM, 2SM, CV, CH) and he's still working on that Cutter as well.

He's probably the most likable and informative reporter they have. My favourite Toronto baseball journalists are probably Brunt and Steve Phillips of Sportscentre.

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen. Here is today's report from the complex.

Hutch pitched 5 innings...0 runs, 3 hits, couple strikeouts, 1 walk and believe it or not 2 balks.

EE went 2-4 with a walk and a strikeout....single, double and a hard line-out to centre.

Venditte got hit a bit and topped out at 82 on the gun..was not impressed.

Tried to catch McBroom on the other diamond but kept missing his at bats..big kid...hope to see him with the Dunedin Jays.They break camp tomorrow so the next report will be from extended spring next week and A ball. Hope to see Vlady Jr.in extended spring games.
