Probably be a better situation than this? just gotta wait til those flags disappear

Even then, if a player debuts everyone has to wait the 2 day grace period. It's not possible for many reasons.

What's with the illegal adds, man? Carlos that add was illegal on Sabol... I guess I'll just put him on waivers and you drop to the bottom.

Okay, I processed Sabol, Dodd and Shuster on waivers... that have been illegal adds. They're game now.

Players come off April 6th 1AM EST

My bad Carlos, I missed Thursday... Sabol's back on your team.

Does this mean we can add them after 1AM…. Or as someone else pointed out 8pm???

Reminder of the relevant section from the league rules:

2.3 Adding Players

Owners are free to add any unowned player with at least one MLB game of experience. During the season, adds are restriced to 6 per week. There is no limit to adds during the offseason.

Unowned players with no MLB experience that are added to a real life roster can only be added at 8PM ET two days after their MLB debut. So if they debut on Tuesday, they can be added at 8PM on Thursday. Commissioners reserve the right to manually add any such player to actual waivers, and owners can request that any such players are added to waivers.

What is the penalty for someone that starts someone illegally and accumulates stats?

I berate them on BJMB

I don't think its ever happened though

I feel like it has and it meant category forfeiture

In BORED? I have no recollection of it if it did happen. I think there's also functionality to remove those stats from the matchup after the fact.

Not sure if it was this league or another one, but it was a starting pitcher start. They were forced to bench their best pitcher for a start later that week. This might have been years ago in yahoo though.

Right. I think it was jaysblue back in Yahoo days. Possibly DDL?

Didn’t it just happen this week with Johny Brito??

He passed through his debut waivers though which means legal.

Ok, not saying you’re wrong but here’s what BTS just posted

Am I misinterpreting? Please explain it to me. Sorry im new to this stuff.

So the chain of events here is:

- Dodd illegally claimed on April 2nd.

- Instead of dropping him to the FA pool, Spanky put him through debut waivers.

- Spanky announced that he did so in the league chat on BORED (his status also would have shown as waivers on the FA list)

- He came off waivers at 1AM this morning after ~4 days on debut waivers. Nobody made a claim on him.

- TCA legally scooped him as a Free Agent at 7:30 AM

- If Dodd hadn't been put on waivers (and cleared) he would have been eligible to be added at 8 PM ET tonight. But TCA didn't have to wait because every owner had a crack at him via debut waivers.

Dumb. I was looking at the waiver page at 1am and could have added him but I didn’t because I thought it was illegal still until 8pm.

Need to be more clear on the rules here.

This s*** is the death of the board leagues

wat. These issues have popped up since the start of the DDL like 10 years ago. There has never been more arguing over minutiae than there was in the first 2-3 years of the DDL.

Also I can’t see a league chat on BORED on my fantrax page.

Also I didn’t realize Spanky had the power to officially make change like that.

The reason people aren’t signing in for weeks at a time isn’t because of waiver wire pickups

Scary thought isn’t it?

Anyways end of the day I don’t care too much, just trying to figure out the rules and I can’t wrap my head around it yet.

I kind of agree - you're right. The issue here hasn't actually popped up before. Usually when players are added to waivers it's on the day they debut. So waivers runs 3-4 days, past the 48-hour waiting period and there's no ambiguity. In this case, Spanky added Dodd to debut waivers before his appearance (like two days before). That would have been fine, but Spanky ideally would have extended the waiver period past 8PM tonight. He didn't do that, and Dodd came off waivers almost 24 hours before the 48-hour waiting period, confusing you.

I think the rule should actually be clarified with an addendum to the current phrasing:

Unowned players with no MLB experience that are added to a real life roster can only be added at 8PM ET two days after their MLB debut. So if they debut on Tuesday, they can be added at 8PM on Thursday. Commissioners reserve the right to manually add any such player to actual waivers, and owners can request that any such players are added to waivers. Waivers should expire at least 48 hours after their MLB debut. So if a player debuts on Tuesday waivers should not expire until at least Friday.

There is a BORED General and BORED Trade Talk channel in Fantrax chat. You should be able to see them.

Spanky does a lot of administrative stuff for the league: dropping illegal adds, helping with draft issues, fixing the waiver order when it gets bungled every year after the draft etc... None of this involved discretion, and any owner can request that a debuting player be added to waivers, so him doing that for Dodd wasn't an issue. The only problem here was the lack of clarity about when waivers should expire.

I'm not entirely sure what to do here. Stangstag is right about the process being confusing in this particular instance. I think the addendum to the rules I proposed cleans that up. I see the argument for putting Dodd back on waivers, but I also see the argument that TCA didn't do anything wrong given the current wording of the rules.

Basically, I'm looking for the solution to the Dodd claim that causes the least possible amount of anger.

I don't think 8PM waivers are a good idea because of add/drop issues it would create. If the player you're dropping in the claim has already played that day, and the player being claimed hasn't played that day yet; the claim wouldn't go though. Which is why waivers tend to be processed over night after all the games have started.

I didn't mean that they'd end at 8PM, I meant that they should end after the 48-hour waiting period, at 1AM or whatever time they tend to clear. But yeah, that's worth clarifying.

Basically, don't put players on waivers until the day they debut, and everything will be fine.
