BTS Community Moderator Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 So, I just made the Thaiis trade a few days ago with the Boozers.. I knew he had MILB eligibility... but no green flag. If I would have seen this post I would 100% have done what you requested..? Was Thaiss on the Drunks farm when you acquired him? I feel like I remember him being on their MLB roster. If he was on their farm I’ll move him down. Drunks to confirm?

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 I'd like to propose a rule that changes it to up to 32 keepers (regardless of their status) so that we don't need to track status. The flags still used during the season of course. People may have already made moves this year to be different Current Rule: On March 1st prior to the rule 5 Draft (March 7) – teams must trim their MLB rosters down. Teams can roster a maximum of 32 total players through the cut down with a maximum of 22 MLB and 14 MiLB being allowed. For example, teams can decide to keep 22 of their MLB players but would only be allowed to carry 10 MiLB. If teams choose this setup their redundant waiver picks will dissolve. If teams acquire more than 12 prospects via trade or draft then they can cut down to a minimum 18 MLB players and carry a maximum of 14 prospects through the cut down period but will be required to cut down to a maximum of 12 prospects before the July MiLB draft. Proposed Rule: On March 1st prior to the rule 5 Draft (March 7) – teams must trim their MLB rosters down. Teams can roster a maximum of 32 total players through the cut down. For every non-Flagged player a team keeps, their redundant waiver picks will dissolve. Teams will be required to cut down to a maximum of 12 prospects before the July MiLB draft.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 I'm good with it, Hurl. One thing that might be an issue is if a prospect is promoted, and is below the threshold and the owner wants to keep on the farm, would the fact the player is no longer a green flag but is on the farm lock the roster from waiver wire pickup, for example? Or is this taken care of by league settings?

I could get behind that, but actually cutting down to 12 prospects for the July draft may not be necessary either (and could cause problems with how Fantrax determines flags during the offseason). I'd suggest having unlimited minors, but people would still need to cut down to 32 total players before the waiver draft. Let's just make it dead simple.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 I'm not opposed to changing the cut down rules, but I think it's 2-3 months too late to adopt a change for the 2020 season. I think we should also discuss moving to 26-man regular season rosters, but I've been waiting until the season starts to discuss rule changes that would be effective in 2021.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 yes I didn't finish my statement but people may have already made moves for this year so this proposal was for 2021. Gives us time to discuss and see where Fantrax differences might cause an issue with this proposal.

There are plenty of players available in the post rule 5 waivers if your player gets returned to the minors.

If a green flag is promoted and loses the flag, but the owner wants to keep on the farm (and not drop a ML guy) would this lock the roster and preclude any moves, including lineup setting?

I honestly barely have ever made moves in the LOD to know the effects (I'm also the guy that lost 3 prospects). It's not the intention of the rule I was proposing.

This other matter is just something i'm concerned about, and if an issue needs to be addressed before the season starts. Whether the league settings allow non-green flags to sit in the minors without locking the roster. Specifically this setting: Prevent any transaction that would cause a roster to become illegal: Always

The Bad Guy Verified Member Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 What does the Green flag mean? Sorry I’m confused
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 What does the Green flag mean? Sorry I’m confused Players that are in the minors, either developing or demoted, have a green flag attached to identify them as such.
The Bad Guy Verified Member Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 Players that are in the minors, either developing or demoted, have a green flag attached to identify them as such. Ok but we still decide when a guy gets promoted right? Fantrax doesn't force us to elevate a guy even if he's in the Majors right?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 There's a ton of overlap between BORED and DDL owners, so we're proposing rule changes that mirror the new DDL rules. I will now plagiarize njh: - We will have unregulated promotion and demotion from/to the MiLB roster (in Fantrax you can't demote unless they have a green flag; in Fantrax if an MiLB player loses their flag it does not lock your roster). - Waiver draft eligibility will be changed to only include prospects who played in AAA in the previous year (or a prior year). - Free agent eligibility will be changed to only include players with MLB service time. Players making their debut will be eligible to be added at 8PM EST on the day following their first active day on the 25 man roster. If desired, an owner can request before the 8PM EST eligibility time that a commissioner place a debuting player on "debut waivers." A commissioner who places a player on debut waivers has to announce it in this thread. There is no general obligation to use debut waivers, which is an accommodation for owners who can't compete for an 8PM EST add, but there is an obligation for commissioners to respond to requests for debut waivers. - The only time mandatory promotion thresholds will apply is at the February cut deadline. The thresholds have been increased to 1000 PA and 50 (GS + half of relief appearances). The point of this is to eliminate owners using the MiLB rosters as a loophole to keep an additional MLB player, if that player happened to have a green flag near the end of the season and was therefore able to be demoted. There are some minor things we'd probably have done a bit differently if the DDL didn't have these rules, but with so many owners participating in both leagues, I think it's best to just have one set of rules to remember when it comes to procedural stuff like this. As always, open for discussion. BadGuy see the last bullet.
