Cyborg Verified Member Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Why did a retired player just get traded? I'm assuming Frenchsoup hopes he comes back and he hits the jackpot.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I'm assuming Frenchsoup hopes he comes back and he hits the jackpot. I'm curious about how this negotiation went down. Did you posture as though you were content to roster Ortiz past the cut? How did you get a 2nd-round waiver pick?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I'm assuming Frenchsoup hopes he comes back and he hits the jackpot. I don't know why he didn't simply wait until the tail end of the draft. No way were you protecting him through the cutdown. Hell, using the 2nd round pick on Ortiz in the draft, while a reach, would at least have saved him a keeper slot.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 To me: BTS 2nd Rd Waiver To FrenchSoup: David Ortiz Vote for Veto

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Vote for Veto IMO it's not even close to veto worthy. It's just an odd gamble to take.

How did you get a 2nd-round waiver pick? I was approached as to what my price was. I said free, he said he would give BTS 3rd rd waiver. I realized he didn't have that, then he said 2nd and I accepted.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I also traded for Ortiz this offseason in the DDL.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Asked for David Jacob. Counter offer was 2nd round waiver. OK, enough with the David Jacob jokes. They've run their course. Time to move on. Find someone else who said something stupid once, to pick on.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Gotta wait until Mark Teahen's kids are old enough to be drafted. Surely Corey Koskie Jr. is ahead of Teahen's rats.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Damn, Corey Koskie had a pretty nice career.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Damn, Corey Koskie had a pretty nice career. Yeah he as kind of a stud. It's weird that his career ended after an .833 OPS and league average production (or better) at just 33. It blows that the worst year of his career was the Toronto season. Sad!

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I think he had bad knees or something. Maybe a bad shoulder? Concussions. Corey Conkie. Canadians have soft noodles. I blame goshdarn full contact Timbits hockey.

Not gonna lie, I had no idea Koskie was that good. If he had been able to play more, could have possibly been a consideration for the HOF.

I think I remember reading an interview with him about it. Said he was still happy to have fulfilled a lifetime dream and he considers it a career highlight even if the season itself went very poorly.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Anybody want Santiago Casilla now that he signed a 2/11 deal with Oakland? He's probably the primary setup man.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 onebigpileofshit.gif Am I doing this right? Casilla is actually decent and it's not like Doolittle is a sure thing. This doesn't apply, dummy. I'd actually be interested if I didn't have such a pain of a roster crunch right now.

BTS Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Deciding whether your 21st keeper is worth keeping over your 12th prospect is an interesting wrinkle specific to this league.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Deciding whether your 21st keeper is worth keeping over your 12th prospect is an interesting wrinkle specific to this league. Not for me, I only have 9 prospects. 22 keepers all the way.
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Not for me, I only have 9 prospects. 22 keepers all the way. 21 and 22 are Santiago Casilla and Seth Lugo for me, and the prospects on the chopping block are Josh Naylor and Eddy Martinez. Leaning towards 22 keepers, but I like Martinez.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I need to cut one of Brad Hand or Jake Diekman. They're both pretty good, in fact Hand had 100 Ks this year strictly as a reliever. I'll also be cutting actual closers Ryan Madson and Jim Johnson.
