Actually his recollection is mistaken. Rios played one game and Cruz was in lineup. Braun was on bench but wasn't starting.

Bingo. The DDL format is perfect, no reason to change anything IMO.

We could do something like we were discussing earlier in the BBDL, which is allow unlimited farms, but only have something like 3 or 4 rounds in the prospect draft (after the initial one). Overall player pool should stay about the same, but would give people the flexibility to build as they wish.

That gives picks after the first 10 some actual value potentially. I don't think that's a bad idea.

The biggest problem would be that the lack of motivation to cut anyone would result in giant prospect lists over time. I don't want to wade through 50 names when talking trade.

Yeah, that's why the rounds would have to be reduced to 3 or 4. I don't know how well it would work in practice, but it seems at least somewhat interesting on paper. The thresholds could be lowered for mandatory promotion to help too.
