TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 it takes weeks for a SSRI to have any effect, so it's unlikely it was the SSRI that caused this, that being said i'm sorry to hear about that. However, it is a known side effect that in the initial stages (but we're talking about maybe the first couple weeks) there is an increase risk in suicide because it increases motivation by bringing down the depression, so for a short period of time, they are actually at an increased risk of suicide. I don't think SSRIs are the most evil drug in the world, i'm on them. yeah and I don't know the exact time lines of when the prescription was written (he was in Australia and his widow didn't give exact details) My issue is not with the drug itself, it's the ease in which doctors prescribe them for very mild cases of depression. He actually went into his doctor because he thought he had Mono.
