MattCarmell Verified Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I have a baseball that I got signed at a team party for the Blue Jays back in '91 or '92 in spring training when I was about 8 years old. Recently I looked at it and was able to identify all but one signature. I was wondering if anyone would be able to assist me in identifying the signature. The help would be greatly appreciated
MattCarmell Verified Member Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 It's the one in the middle. The top is Kelly Gruber and the bottom is John Olerud.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Mike Timlin? That's my best guess.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I think it's Mickey Weston.

That's some next level preachy s***; Teebow could learn a thing or two from this dude.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

That and the legible hand writing pretty much rules him out. Timlin has terrible hand writing so maybe it's him though it doesn't really look like it. I looked up the Syracus and Knoxville rosters from those years on Baseball Reference too and didn't find anything. I can't resist a mystery but this one has me stumped.
MattCarmell Verified Member Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Here is a side by side. Thanks for the help but I don't think they are a match

I thought it might have been Mookie Wilson but there are pics of his autograph on a ball and it looks pretty neat. I figured Weston might have had a messier signature on a ball.

You can clearly see that the pen was lifted before and after forming it. Who signs like that? Timlin does have the middle initial A. If he was signing Michael A. Timlin at the time instead of Mike Timlin then it would be him. I have no other theories.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) I looked at every roster player and coach from 91 and 92 Nothing that looks likely Tough one... Edited November 24, 2015 by G-Snarls
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 It was in spring training My guess it was someone who never made the major league team that year

The issue I'm having is that it clearly looks as though there's an "o" in the surname.
MattCarmell Verified Member Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 I appreciate all the help. I like the theories.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 It was '91 '92 Typo by me. That's what I meant and those are the rosters I looked at
bendera3 Verified Member Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 If you want to find out a good resource might be trying to buy the 91 and 92 editions of Spring Training Magazine somewhere online. They might have rosters (their website has the past couple of years of rosters on it.
