Cyborg Verified Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Seems decently fair actually. Powell is a pretty decent prospect.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Seems decently fair actually. Powell is a pretty decent prospect. Good OBP guy.. something the Mariners BADLY need. Hope he's good in the OF--the Mariners have had issues with OF defense in recent years.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Seems decently fair actually. Powell is a pretty decent prospect. Slap hitting guy that probably can't handle CF on a regular basis. Best case scenarios is that he's Ben Revere without the wheels (Boog isn't slow but he's not Revere fast)
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Seems decently fair actually. Powell is a pretty decent prospect. ^ Owns Boog Powell in the BBDL. Nothing to see here folks.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 This is probably fine for Seattle. They save some money and get rid of two guys they don't like. LoMo never turned out to be the good player most thought he could be, I don't see how this is a fleecing by any means. You guys need to relax on the Rays train. This is a minor trade, not acquiring Josh Donaldson or Troy Tulowitzki ffs lol.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 ^ Owns Boog Powell in the BBDL. Nothing to see here folks. You probably should have tried to trade him to JFaS first.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Wat Never mind. Thought you were replying to Hurl's comment.
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Never mind. I'm dumn. Ah, gotchu
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 @GregJohnsMLB Mariners-Rays with 6-player trade: Sea sends Brad Miller, LoMo & Farquhar to TB for RH Nathan Karns, LH CJ Riefenhauser and OF Boog Powell. I don't agree with people calling this trade a huge win for the Rays. I don't think Miller is a lot more valuable than Karns, a good SP with 5 years of team control, and Powell has a legit chance to be useful. Morrison was surely going to be non-tendered by Seattle. If anything, this trade looks like a win for both teams to me.

Karns is going to reduce his HR rate significantly at SafeCo and I expect his numbers will look pretty damn nice. I'm not saying Seattle won, but I don't see how anyone could spin this as a landslide victory for the Rays.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Because Brad Miller had a .930 OPS in the minors, with a .400 OBP and awesome peripherals, and UZR thinks he's an average defensive shortstop. People still see him as a sleeping giant who got jerked around stupidly by Seattle. Someone who could be a top 5 offensive SS in the game. Also, Nate Karns is older than Mat Latos.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I wonder if TB ends up non-tendering LoMo. $4M for likely replacement-level play is pretty gross.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Someone who could be a top 5 offensive SS in the game. I don't see that at all. He's been a league average bat through 1,200 PAs, and he's actually hit better at Safeco than on the road. I'm not sure why we suddenly care about UZR (probably because it's convenient for the argument), but Miller is at best passable at SS. I trust DRS over UZR, and I trust scouting over both. The Mariners did jerk him around, and they're a terrible organization, but they wouldn't have done so if he had excelled or given them the indication that he was going to be a star.

Millah and Nicky Frank is going to be a great DP combo to watch........Maybe in 2 years

I trust DRS over UZR, and I trust scouting over both. I trust UZR just fine. Certainly more than teh scouts. What the f*** happened to you? League average bats make well above average offensive shortstops. In terms of offensive projections, outside of Correa, Bogaerts, and Tulowitzki, Miller is in a tightly projected group of shortstops with projected wRC+ of a hair over 100. Kang, Baez, Seager, Peralta, Semien, Flores, Miller.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 POLL What is worse for the world? - 9/11 Truthers - People who hate UZR
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 you have that order backwards. stfu 1-8!
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 POLL What is worse for the world? - 9/11 Truthers - People who hate UZR The latter I suppose, as the former have many logical arguments.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I trust UZR just fine. Certainly more than teh scouts. What the f*** happened to you? Ok, even assuming we trust UZR: UZR says he's adequate, DRS says he's below average, and scouts say he has no chance to stick. The most optimistic outlook is acceptable at best.

The most optimistic outlook is average defensive big league SS.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I think the Rays will platoon Miller. With who?

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Sux predictions: 2+ WAR 110 wRC+ 0+ UZR Top 5 fantasy SS 2016 Top 8 dynasty SS after 2016 multiple 20 HR seasons before age 30
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 predictions: 2+ WAR - Yes 110 wRC+ - No Doubt 0+ UZR - No Clue Top 5 fantasy SS 2016 - I'll say will be a debate for this. Top 8 dynasty SS after 2016 - I think there is a Clear top 6 (assuming Machado keeps eligibility) with Tulo the guy with the foot out the door. Miller would be competing with guys that I trust less than him so I'll say why not. multiple 20 HR seasons before age 30 - He was awfully close to where Smoak was last year in FB distance, a jump like Smoak had in HR/FB isn't going to happen, but a small spike he would flirt with 20 next year...so yes.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 With who? Daniel Robertson by mid-season?
Johnny King Vancouver Canadians - A+ LHP The 19-year-old top prospect has made 16 High-A starts. He is 3-2 with a 2.92 ERA. In 61 2/3 innings, he's walked 35, but he's struck out 83 batters. Explore Johnny King News >
