rydermike Verified Member Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 I hate how every time we lose a lead, it feels like every hitter tries for a home run swing. Yes, tying it in one swing is great, but KC proves again and again how effective small ball is. Just get on base, it causes pressure, forces the stretch, causes errors (Game 5 Texas showed that, one error led to another and another) Apart from Revere and Colabello, it feels like everyone else just goes for the HR swing when we're down now (Goins too, but he's in such a slump, I'm not expecting much, great 2B today though.) A bunch of 3-4 pitch strikeouts late in the game all with home run cuts

A fan maybe? i didn't hear anything; had the whole game on mute; couldn't stand the announcers or i'm-going-to-sue-you andrews
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 I'd much rather watch them lose to the Astros, f*** the Royals.

Great play by a fan if that's what happened, home field advantage right there, but I would hope Goins could recognize JB's voice (but it was loud). Reminds me of that A-Rod/ Howie Clark pop up a few years ago

Our big hitters don't just hit HRs and they can hit it out in any park...they don't need to change anything. We had more big run comebacks than any team in baseball.

I heard it also and thought it was Goins. Goins said in the post-game interview that he thought he heard someone call for it, but that he didn't. Goins took the blame for it as he should. I think a fan or fans must have called for it.

He waved Bautista off, so there was no confusion on Bautista's part. I wouldn't say Bautista threw Goins under the bus. Bautista looked shocked when Goins stopped and the ball dropped. That one play shows how one miscue can completely change the direction of a ball game, and it wasn't even recorded as an error.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 At the end of the day I think lack of Cecil hurt us big here... I feel that if Cecil was available Gibby would have been a bit quicker to pull Price after the string of hits. Instead with Loup his only other lefty option with lefties coming up he left Price in there (and I can't blame Gibby for trusting Price over Loup) and paid for it. Not to mention Loup came in anyway and allowed those add on runs later... As for Price, as much as he choked it away in the 6th there after that awful Goins non-catch, I can't all of a sudden just ignore those near-perfect first 6 innings either... of course he still deserves a lot of the blame for what went on in that inning and not finishing it off, but I feel that under normal circumstances with Cecil available he would have been pulled quicker there. And of course, you have to give credit to KC hitters for making the adjustment and stringing together hits too.

Yes, I like the bombs, but we led the league in walks because of our patience. Many of those comebacks came from taking a few pitches, waiting for their pitch and hitting it out. Our patience alot of times all year translated to home runs because we got into favourable counts. We did that well earlier today. But Martin's at bat really got me. He just swung and swung. Take a couple pitches then take a HR cut, don't just go up and take 3 cuts.

He was cruising with a low pitch count for him. I don't like the decision to go with GB sanchez over Lowe or Hendriks when he did finally pull Price. Whatever....lets get them in gm 3.

If he wants to be a thoroughbred, he has to stop the bleeding right there. No excuse. There's no doubt he has some forms of yips here in the playoffs. But then did the Royals hit him hard? I don't think so. I feel much better Price getting the ball again in the series than when they called him out of the pen in the Texas series (and got hit hard)
nextyear Verified Member Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 The good thing is that Stroman pitches in game 3 and will liekly have a great outing. Then Dickey can throw them off with his knuckleball.

This is what Hell is like.

Shogun89 Verified Member Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Another question is, that ground ball where Goins ran in front of Tulowitzki, if Goins had stayed on second where Tulo was expecting him to be, could that have been a double play? Because it looked like Tulo wanted to try for it, as he gave Goins a stare then took a few extra steps towards second before he just unloaded to first to get an out.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 No, they started the runner. We had no play at 2B I agree. Hosmer was already standing on 2nd base when Tulo got the ball in his glove. Not much Goins coulda done in this spot.

That was a toolbox move. Simply can't be doing that s*** in the postseason. That said, pretty sure he was getting frustrated about being asked about it 5 times.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Yeah he sounded like a douchebag. Pretty cringe-worthy. 34-year old vet and a young fringy kid involved, I would have expected something like "I should have taken charge. I didn't. It's my bad".
