Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Brunt asked all the questions people wanted to hear? Also he and Shi went on to talk about the service time in more detail on the coverage last night on TV, it's how I learned Bryant's grievance is still on file with the MLB, Eloy Jimenez agent has filed a grievance, they expect Vladito to follow suit along with FTJ, if he isn't up at some point next year, interesting stuff that's basically meaningless in consideration with the CBA. Not necessarily meaningless. A CBA does not override the law, including case law.

What law says they have to be called up? We all know that they're kept down due to service time. Proving it is another thing. It's a subjective thing. The organization can pick one or two weaknesses (everyone has them) and say they wanted player X to work on that. Done.

No such law saying they have to be called up, but there are laws that may apply related to suppression of earning potential. It's actually not hard to show this in some of these cases. If the club waits til 3rd week of April to call up a player, after said player demolished AAA the previous season, any reasonable observer would..... etc Remember, civil actions are not subject to the innocent until proven guilty threshold. Balance of probabilities.....

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Will Merryweather make anyone's top 30 list? Given he's nearly a lock to make a ML appearance and is projected to be decent, he definitely should easily make the top half of the list. Will he? Who knows. Evaluators don't like em old.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Merryweather should be on every top 30 Jays prospects list. There’s really no reason why he shouldn’t be.

King Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Zeuch and Hiraldo seem a little low. Otherwise, one of the better Jays prospect lists I’ve seen. It's not terrible. SRF is way too low IMO. Yes his walk rate was too high in the MLB but his numbers look good under the hood. I don't know why Jonathan Davis is on this list. I would take most of the prospects ranked after him in a heartbeat. I don't love Billy McKinney but think he's too low. Pannone was pretty bad in his debut, unless you like soft tossing lefties. Maybe he becomes a decent LOOGY or something. I would have tried to rank Yennsy Diaz, Adam Kloffenstein, Maximo Castillo and Riley Adams. Patrick Murphy had a bit of helium as well. I guess you can't rank everyone.

Anthony Alford 10. Jordan Groshans 11. Cavan Biggio 12. Miguel Hiraldo 13. Orelvis Martinez 14. Billy McKinney 15. David Paulinho 16. Hector Perez 17. Adam Kloffenstein 18. Reese McGuire 19. Rowdy Tellez 20. Julian Merryweather 21. Jordan Romano 22. Thomas Pannone 23. Samad Taylor 24. Leonardo Jimenez 25. Santiago Espinal 26. Travis Bergen 27. Yennsy Diaz 28. Forrest Wall 29. Patrick Murphy 30. Ryan Noda 1-10 is mostly set. The bottom third is really hard to rank. You could replace some of those players with Maximo Castillo, Joey Murray, Logan Warmoth, Riley Adams, Harold Ramirez, Gabriel Moreno, Brock Lundquist, Alejandro Kirk, Otto Lopez, Cal Stevenson etc. It's a good problem to have when you have too many prospects that could rank in the Top 30. Edit: Also Chavez Young as well. Our system is loaded.

Ray Verified Member Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Blue jays now have what... a farm that ranks between top 6-10? And maybe closer to #5 than to #10? We have to be Top 5 imo. Padres, Rays, White Sox, and Braves would be the only ones I would really put in front.

We could only have Vladdy and no one else and I wouldn't put the Braves ahead of us. They have all arms. I don't mind Riley (but Brett Lawrie'esk) but Pache is trash with the bat, Waters is too aggressive with everything he does. Only thing I say about the Braves is that they can turn their Pen troubles around right now by moving a few guys to the pen and promote them right away.
