L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I don't get it either. He started the season at 3B, then was sent down to learn OF.. and now he's a potential gold-glover. Ya pretty bizarre. Doesn't really strike me as a great athlete either. Good for him though.
puphood Verified Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Pillar knocked out an AS SS, so he should automatically be downgraded to being the WORST defensive CF. It was Pillars ball and he called for it. Super Star Brittle bones should of pealed off like Goins did......
EMK19 Verified Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Not sure if any Jays get it... Pillar has the best chance IMO but there's Kiermaier he has to compete with. Catching Dickey has made Martin's stats look worse than it should be, and JD's been solid but probably has too many throwing errors compared to the others.
Candide Verified Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 do Gold Gloves even factor into the Hall of Fame discussions? I think of Jim Edmonds, who likely won't even get the minimum number of votes this time around but he won 8 gold gloves, was a 4-time all star, has a career WAR above 60 and a career OPS of .900+. I think he should be a shoo in for the Hall of Fame but I admit that I am a bit biased because he is my dad.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Since we're getting close to season's end, I thought I'd evaluate who I think are the Gold Gloves candidates are for the 2015 season in the AL: (stats provided by FanGraphs, qualified batters only) Pitcher: Dallas Keuchel (HOU) (13 dRS) Wade Miley (BOS) (5 dRS) Mark Buehrle (TOR) (4dRS) Gotta give it to Keuchel there.. though Buehrle has a good shot as well because of his history, and his previous Gold Gloves. Catcher: Sal Perez (KC) 6 DRS, 11.0 Def Russel Martin (TOR) 11.7 Def, -3 DRS (mostly due to catching Dickey) Brian McCann (NYY) 10.9 Def, 1 DRS James McCann (DET) 7.1 Def, 3 DRS Three way race between Martin, McCann and Sal Perez. Martin would be a leading candidate if he weren't catching Dickey. First Base: Mitch Moreland (TEX) 8.5 UZR Mike Napoli (TEX/BOS) 5.9 UZR Albert Pujols (LAA) 5.0 UZR Second Base: Omar Infante (KC) Carlos Sanchez (CHW) Ian Kinsler (DET) Jose Altuve (HOU) Jason Kipnis (CLE) Tighter race here.. but because Infante isn't really an everyday player anymore. Kinsler/Altuve/Kipnis should be the favorites. Surprised Carlos Sanchez is here.. if only he could hit. Third Base: Adrian Beltre (TEX) Manny Machado (BAL) Josh Donaldson (TOR) Evan Longoria (TB) Machado or Donaldson have the best shot.. Beltre missed time earlier this season due to injury. Shortstop: Alcides Escobar (KC) Didi Gregorius (NYY) Xander Bogaerts (BOS) JJ Hardy (BAL) Looks like another gold glove for Escobar... JJ Hardy would be in the mix if he stayed healthy. Outfield Kevin Kiermaier (TB) Jake Marisnick (HOU) Yoenis Cespedes (not in AL mix due to trade) Kevin Pillar (TOR) Adam Jones (BAL) Kole Calhoun (LAA) Lorenzo Cain (KC) Kiermaier, Pillar and Jones should be the front runners.. Cespedes is not eligible due to trade to the NL. Cain would be a favorite if he didn't have so many errors in CF (9).. any reason why so many? As for Marisinick, it's a similar situation to JBJ last year.. doesn't play regularly. Not sure if Mike Trout should be in the mix.. but I just don't see him as a gold glover. If you have any suggestions for gold glove candidates, let me know. I was just going by FanGraphs numbers, including UZR, DEF, DRS, etc. Heehee, this is funny stuff. If the voters looked at this stuff, Jeter wouldn't need a special room in his mansion to store his gold glove trophies.

If the voters looked at this stuff, Jeter wouldn't need a special room in his mansion to store his gold glove trophies. Most of those voters don't look at sabermetrics. They just look at how much of a star the player is.. why do you think Jeter got so many?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I admit that I am a bit biased because he is my dad. that would either make you a bastard child, a hot 21 year old, a 17 year old girl or a small child. If it's the 17 year old I suggest we make you the newest mod, so that King can better enjoy his bannings.
crederer Verified Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 If you're wondering why Goins isn't in the mix, it's due to not having enough ABs to qualify. Otherwise, he'd be a slam dunk at 2B for a gold glove. But he could be considered too. I was just about to ask this. I wasn't sure of the qualifications but defensively he seems as good as anyone could possibly be.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Two thirds of the earth is covered by water and the other third is covered by Kiermaier. He is in another world on D. Lock. Hahaha... I missed this, well played.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 Kiermaier should win all 3 OF gold gloves. Providing dumb voters don't give them to Adam Jones and Mike Trout..
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Kiermaier should win all 3 OF gold gloves. Kiermaier has already said that he hopes he wins the Gold Glove so that he can use it to hold up his Fielding Bible trophy.

FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 My guess in the OF, KK, Pillar and Jones
Sorrow Verified Member Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 My guess in the OF, KK, Pillar and Jones 3 CFs cannot win anymore. It's broken into LF, CF and RF.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Here are the criteria that gold glove voters look for: 1) Did they make the post-season? 2) Do they play for a major market team? 3) Were they good offensively as well? 4) Are there any highlight reel plays being circulated? 5) How many errors did they make?

Speaking with one voter, he looks at fielding pct, errors and eye test memory...shameful.
