I could be wrong as its been a while, but wasn't there strong rumours back in 2001 that Dombrowski wold be the GM of the Blue Jays (before Ricciardi) ?

Yeah but he turned it down to go to Detroit

Dave Dombrowski has made some bad decisions too recently... Gose for Travis, moving Doug Fister for nothing to clear room for Joe Nathan, hiring Brad Ausmus, never building a good bullpen, extending the wrong pitcher (Verlander) way before they needed to, etc. Cherrypicking good/bad decisions isn't going to prove anything.

Billy Beane didn't sell Donaldson to save on payroll, that's complete nonsense and you know it. They could well afford Donaldson... they did it becaues they were getting what they perceived to be a package that exceeded Donaldson in value. Beane is a master of building great teams on the cheap.

I think most on here agree with you that Billy Became is the guy we want for the job but no one really knows if he will be available. Therefore the only plausible option to fill the president is DD. Considering he's the most experienced and the best available

DD = Dan Dequette? Cause I got that he is far from "available" after last offseason. I'd advocate hard for trying to steal Sandy Alderson out of the Mets.

No Dombrowski

No, DD in this case is Dave Dombrowski who just recently was dismissed and is available lol. I don't think the Mets are getting rid of Alderson any time soon with the team that he's built and bringing some excitement back to Queens.

Yeah, I was being an idiot. I blame everyone here for using DD for Dan Dequette over the past year to get me confused. :P

I don't either, but doesn't hurt to try like hell and then some more.

I don't know about Dombrowski's qualifications as a President, but I liked him as a GM. A few head-scratchers (the Nathan-Fister sequence, for one), but for the most part he had a habit of robbing other GMs blind in his trades: turning Granderson into Jackson and Scherzer, landing Miggy for a bunch of busts, etc... He also had mutiple playoff teams on a not-astronomical budget.

doesn't getting good deals on giving up busts come from good saber guys and a good scouting staff? how much of that is GM and how much is supporting staff?

I think if Beane leaves the A's....he goes to red Sox. They offered him a GM job a few years back if I recall correctly.

Me and my fellow Luggies cronies figured DD was heading to TO a while ago. I think a combo of AA and DD is perfect.

Everything Beane has ever received credit for would fall under this umbrella.

He has shown the ability to build a big league team, but I wouldnt want him anywhere near the farm.

I think with the new trend of duo-GM front offices (Epstein/Hoyer, Zaidi/Friedman) the Jays could have a real situation where they go forward with Anthopoulos and Dombrowski both in prominent roles with the club. I'm not sure how likely that is, but with Dombrowski's track record of success at the major league level, and Alex's track record in rebuilding the farm system, it could be quite a valuable pairing.

now that AA just emptied the prospect pool we really need him to be around to rebuild it.

I think Dombroski is actually stronger than Duquette, who I also like but not as much. Some of the expensive contracts DD has handed out (eg. Fielder) were mostly because Ilitich was sort of forcing him to do it. Plus, he was able to get rid of that contract. He's a ninja like AA. And I know AA has a ton of respect for DD. AA & DD, sound awesome.

I know that Orgfiller thinks that his comment is the proverbial board with a nail in it, but what I said makes perfect sense if you're willing to accept that it is possible for two people to have the initials DD, and that there is or has been speculation that the Blue Jays are or were interested in hiring each of these people to be their president.

I'm actually pretty surprised that I had to explain this.

Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others!

Yeah, I had no trouble following along. Wasn't sure what Org was going on about.

If they make the playoffs after all this and get rid of AA, it would be a pr nightmare and rogers care too much about PR to let that happen.

aren't Dombrowski and AA really just the same person. I mean if I had to compare AA to anyone it would be Dombrowski right after Mike Rizzo

Even if the Jays want to sign Dombrowski, they might not get to. Lots of teams showing interest.
